It’s no wonder she has found success in all that she does. From the big screen to the ice to even the golf course, actress Kristy Swanson is charming, funny, talented and dedicated to what she believes in.
Kristy began her professional career at the age of nine, and by the age of 13, had more than 30 commercials to her name. Though she’s best known for her film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Laguna Beach native has been acting for well over three decades, starring in roles such as Hot Shots! The Program, The Chase, Flowers in the Attic and Higher Learning. You may have recognized Kristy as she co-starred alongside Adam Sandler as his girlfriend in Big Daddy. She even played the dream girl in the 2000 film, Dude, Where’s My Car.
While she’s graced the big screen many times, Kristy is no stranger to television either. Her credits include Just Shoot Me!, CSI: Miami, Growing Pains, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, to name a few. She has two movies that will be releasing this year. Driven Underground and a Christmas movie, Angels in the Snow.
In 2006, Kristy took to the ice, and skated into television screens appearing on Skating with Celebrities. It was then that she met former Olympian and husband Lloyd Eisler. While the two skated their way to a championship, defeating five other celebrity/skating duos, they also found success and love. “I was paired up with the strongest skater and the best in the sport,” says Kristy. “But our determination and competitive drive is what connected us and drove our team.”
Lloyd, a two time Olympic Bronze Medalist in Pairs Figure Skating, began skating at the age of seven in a small town in Canada after not making the local hockey team. By the age of 14, Lloyd was destined for success. His award-winning career granted him a spot in the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in and was inducted in 1988.
”It was incredibly special as you are being honored for all of your hard work and the contributions you made to the world of sports for others to see and always know what it takes,” says Lloyd. He attributes his success to his dedication and resilience to never give up, and always see a future. “I always say if you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much room.”
Kristy and Lloyd’s partnership on the ice quickly grew into a relationship, and the two married and together have a son, Magnus. When Kristy is not acting, she spends her time cruising her motorcycle, attending NASCAR races, or on the greens playing golf with Lloyd.
An avid golfer, Kristy was preparing for the Murray Bros. Caddyshack Celebrity Golf Classic when the idea for aDRESSitGOLF was born. “I love to golf, but I always struggled with what to wear, so I put on a dress from designer Eva Varro. The dress turned out to be a success, as it was perfect for golfing. Best thing about it, I was able to change golf shoes for heels and attend the dinner party right after.” Soon thereafter, Kristy met up with Eva Varro and decided to do a golf line. Kristy and her husband launched aDRESSitGOLF clothing and accessories collection last year aimed at female golfers. “Fashion is not my world, but it became my world in the golf industry. I’d like to think of it as golf meets resort wear.”
Kristy and Lloyd along with their adorable son Magnus, proudly call Santa Clarita their home and have continued to be very active in non-profit organizations. In 2009, she teamed up with Dr. Phil as a Warrior Ambassador for the Iraq Star Foundation, helping raise money for plastic surgery for soldiers returning from duty with disfigurements. She’s done work with Snowball Express organization and participated in the 9-11 Ride, Boot Campaign Ride and Ride 2 Recovery. “I have a history of being involved and doing a lot of events for the first responders and service men and women, fallen heroes and families of fallen heroes and enjoy helping when I can. I believe as a celebrity and role model, it is my duty and an absolute honor to help raise money and create awareness for every single person who has been of service.”
Kristy recently served as the Grand Marshall for the inaugural Memorial Ride to Benefit the L.A. County Firefighter Widows & Orphans Fund, which began at Fire Station 126 in Valencia and ended at Route 66 Classic Grille. “I have a big heart for those people, and to be a part of the Firehogs Memorial Ride means a lot to me,” says Kristy. Lloyd adds, “We are a huge supporter when it comes to things like this. The event was close to home, and it is a cause we feel strongly about.”
A big heart both on and off the screen, Kristy’s career is nothing less than successful. What is her secret? “To have success in showbiz is to be able to have thick skin and a forgiving heart. To have success in life is to love yourself, your family and always have God really close by.”
