Alternative Music Nation: Future X Husbands
The nightlife in the Santa Clarita Valley is in for a real surprise with a quartet cover band with an alternative edge. Meet your “Future X husbands” hailing from right here in Valencia, California. These men make ex-husbands look cool.
Introducing the band: Future X Husbands consisting of original drummer Augie Gonzales who decided to pursue other interests after being with the group for a while. However, he is a band supporter and designed a simple logo of four silhouettes on a business card which is the logo on the bass drum. The current line-up is Jeremy Fannon (Vocals), Rob Ayres (Guitar, Vocals), Justin Kunkel (Bass & Kazoo), and newest member, Juan Ramirez (Drums). Tim Blake is an addition to the band occasionally playing the Ukulele and singing background vocals.
Rob and Jeremy have some interesting history. Rob was the 6th grade teacher for Jeremy’s daughter, Jocelyn. Jeremy and Rob both sang to Alicia (Jeremy’s wife) at her 40th birthday party as requested by her. Life was moving forward with practice and performing.
In October 2014, a terrible tragedy happened to Rob, he lost his wife Jamie. He was a young father with his daughter, Abigail, to raise by himself. He went through a period of deep depression and mourning from the loss of his wife. Things were very tough for him and his daughter. After several months, he began to write music and practicing with the band. Rob said “through, the love for guitar and the support of his family, band mates, and friends he was able to find the strength to continue music.”
The band was performing originals that were written by Rob (Guitars), however, the band felt that to increase attendance at shows that they would consider performing cover tunes. The strategy did work and more shows were in the pipeline. Jeremy and Rob claimed, “people want to sing along to familiar favorites that they grew up on and relate too.” They decided to strictly play covers and performances at venues were growing in numbers as well as higher attendance. Some of the songs they perform are: Tom Petty’s “American Girl”, Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”, The Stray Cats “Rock This Town”, Nivana’s “Lithium”, The Strokes “Last Night”, The Red Hot Chili Peppers “Scar Tissue” and The Ramones “BlitzKrieg Bop” just to name a few.
The Future X Husbands perform 80s and 90s KROQ or modern day Jack FM alternative music with an edge. Wolf Creek Brewery is home base for these guys. The band has also performed at Pocock Brewery, Backyard Grub n’ Brews, and Vincenzo’s. Jeremy and Rob handle the business side of booking shows and scheduling rehearsals and other events. They plan to perform in Northridge at The Tilted Kilt by early to mid-summer. In July 2017, the band is performing at the “Ventura Surf Rodeo.”
The members have a very eclectic mix of influences. Jeremy’s picks are (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smiths, Madness, David Bowie, Stray Cats), Rob’s picks are (Rush, U2, Allman Brothers, Nirvana, Beatles), Justin’s picks are (Misfits, Beastie Boys, Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ramones), and Juan’s picks are ( Kiss, Judas Priest, The Who, Sex Pistols, and Led Zepplin).
