A Message from the Associate Publisher Alexander Hafizi
Since the age of two, so much of my life has led up to this moment. Many of you have seen me grow up on the pages of The Magazine of Santa Clarita and it is with great pride that I take on this new role as the Associate Publisher of élite Magazine Interactive Media. I would like to personally thank our readers and advertisers for their confidence and loyal support of our magazines. We are very grateful.
Over the last 27 years, both of our publications have highlighted numerous charities, showcased thousands of local businesses and honored those individuals who make it all happen. In this issue of elite Magazine, we are pleased to feature insightful stories about the interesting people and new places to visit in the Santa Clarita Valley.
You know they say not to judge a book by its cover, however, our cover feature is one story that you surely can. A legendary skateboarding hall of famer, Laura Thornhill Caswell is truly an inspiration on and off the board. Back in the ‘70’s, she was a young woman in a male dominated sport and she held her own. She is just the kind of inspiration young people can look up to… young people like Jillian Spaeder, Nicole Sherman and Chance Rich– three individuals who continue to follow their dreams.
This month, readers had the opportunity to vote for their favorites in our élite Ultimate Beauty, Fashion & Fitness Awards and we are pleased to say the votes have been tallied! Congratulations to all the winners and to those who have supported us. Flip to page 12 to see our Ultimate winners.
Speaking of beauty, we are pleased to feature Beauty Transformations, some of our élite Ultimate winners got together to take their transformations to the next level. So much of my passion in life comes from connecting people so they can grow their business. I really love it when people do good work together. Check out the transformation before and after photos on page 18.
Our June/July million dollar home is nestled in the Sand Canyon area. A 4.4 million dollar stunner, this is an estate you will love the second you see it on page 46. Speaking of love, we had the pleasure of learning where it all started with Greg and Chell Amsler, the pair behind SCV’s staple Salt Creek Grille. We hope you enjoy reading what brought them from the plains of the midwest to the sunny shores of California. They may even inspire you to find your very own place on the beach or just take a romantic getaway somewhere. And just as you ask yourself “but where?”, we have the perfect place. A sweet little town in the central coast, Santa Maria is one of 10 All-American cities across the nation. We’ve pin pointed some great places to visit on page 80.
It’s official, Bill Bolde, the principal of Saugus High School, has made the decision to retire after working for the Hart School District for 37 years. Our Looking Back feature is close to my heart as I was one of Principal Bolde’s students when I attended Saugus. His story is inspiring and we wish him well as he starts the next adventure in life.
We continue with a spotlight on an edgy unique band called the Future X Husbands. You may have even caught them at Wolfcreek Brewery as the live entertainment. Read about this band of four guys that came together out of a love for 90’s music and live shows on page 56.
Don’t forget to take a moment to show your appreciation for your dad this Father’s Day and your grad, with our Fabulous Finds, (page 30) as well as support and honor those who have served, and are serving, our country this Independence Day. Be safe Santa Clarita.
Until the next issue,
