Our Adventure begins at the Blue Dolphin Inn located in the stunning Cambria, California. This is a boutique hotel within a few footsteps from Moonstone Beach and boardwalk. Hotel guests will be lulled to sleep every night with the sounds of the ocean waves caressing the shore; and will wake to an amber sunrise over beautiful ocean blue. Voted as one of San Luis Obispo’s best north coast restaurant, Robin’s Restaurant is a popular place amongst locals and visitors. Located off of Main Street in Cambria, CA; just a few minutes’ drive from the Blue Dolphin Inn. Robin’s features several handcrafted menu items with flavors from around the world. This restaurant has something for all to be fulfilled. The restaurant consists of an inside section where patrons can dine under ambient lighting and quant cottage seating. The inside is amazing but the outside garden is the place to be! The garden area is the prime location for intimate meetings and awe-inspiring moments for all to share. Not only is this place quite beautiful the customer service is outstanding. The staff members are extremely accommodating and very friendly. They treat you as if your family and leave you with warm feelings and a fully satisfied pallet. After dinner Main Street is a great place to leisurely walk about. The town is full of small businesses for everyone to enjoy.
Highway One is known for its beauty and attractions. One in particular is the world-renowned Hearst Castle. This national monument is a must see when in town. Located in the heart of San Simeon this magnificent place has not only provided a go to place for visitors, but was and still is a major instrument for conservation of the beauty of Highway One. Upon arrival you start at the visiting center where you learn some background of how this land began as a family camping location before William Randolph Hearst turned it into his extravagant property known today. From the visiting center you take a large tour bus to the top of the hill. During the voyage to La Cuesta Encantada (the enchanted Hill) guests learn several more facts about the earlier years of William Randolph Hearst. As you gaze out the window you will see the roaring hills that were once booming with exotic animals, some of which are still there today. As you climb higher, the California Coast becomes more visible and stunning. At the top of the hill, at almost 1600 feet, the view of nearly 250,000 acres from the Castle is breathtaking. Depending on the tour selected you begin walking a specific direction of the immense property that many famous guest once walked. Every aspect of this palace shows the dedication and attention to detail that William R. Hearst and his architect, Julia Morgan put into creating this place of dreams.
Concluding the tour be sure to stop at Sebastian’s, located across the way from the castle. This eatery offers selections from the Hearst family ranch and tasting from their winery. After dining on the exquisite menu items take a ride to see the elephant seals. These majestic creatures travel over 3,000 miles to soak up the California sun.
When traveling back to your coastal hotel room, be sure to stop by some of the local Wineries. Located a few miles south of Cambria, in the town of Harmony lies Harmony Cellars, Winery and Tasting room. This fabulous location is a great spot stop and enjoy a tasting with a harmonious view. Sitting on top of a hill the outdoor area is perfect for a picnic while enjoying a glass of wine.
Work up an appetite by cruising through the town of Cayucos. Here you will find a row of shops and friendly locals. The town is located across from the Pacific Ocean and you can rent kayaks, paddle or surf Boards before dinner. If you are craving something sweet, try the original brown butter sea salt cookie at the Brown Butter Cookie Company. If you are looking for more sustenance try the Grill at Cass House. The menu offers selectively sourced ingredients from the bounty of the Central Coast. The recipes are made with items from local farms and their own garden. This is quite the location to enjoy a meal prepared with seasonal ingredients that are complemented with the flavors of the wood-burning hearth. The Cass house, located just a few steps away from the Grill is another great location for rest and relaxation. A classic Victorian home located just walking distance from the beach and pier.
We ended our adventure the following day with a trip to Linn’s Restaurant. This place is known for its unique creations with the Olallieberry, a cross of a blackberry and a raspberry. Among the many delicacies this particular fruit has been widely embraced by their customers. After a satisfying breakfast walk around to one of their many storefronts.
