Meet the Surgeons at Elite Robotic Surgery
Doctor Emery Chen, MD, FACS, is the highest volume robotic general and endocrine surgery specialist in the Santa Clarita, San Fernando, and Antelope Valleys. He has been practicing surgery for over 11 years. He attended UC Berkeley for his undergraduate degree and obtained his MD from New York Medical College in 2001. In 2006, he finished his general surgery training at UCSF. He then took a prestigious fellowship in endocrine surgery at Rush University in Chicago. He is a board certified general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
“I grew up in Southern California, spending my formative years in Orange County. I’ve spent years moving around this great state and throughout major parts of the country during my education and training. But no matter where I would go, my heart knew that California has been, and always will be my home”, says Dr. Chen.
When asked to explain what Endocrine Surgery is, he replied, “Endocrine Surgery involves complex operations of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pancreatic glands. It requires meticulous care in all phases of surgery: the preop, intraop, and postop phases. He became an expert in robotic general surgery and is certified to proctor other surgeons training to use the daVinci robot. “I have already done over 500 cases since I started using the platform in 2014”, he reports.
I have a wonderful wife and three talented and accomplished daughters. In my free time, I enjoy watching my kids compete in age-group swimming and listening to them play piano,” shared Dr. Chen.
Dr. Chen offers a variety of minimally invasive, laparoscopic and robotic assisted operations: removal of gallbladder, appendix, colon; laparoscopic robotic assisted hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, ventral, recurrent incisional); laparoscopic robotic assisted reconstruction of abdominal wall (roboTAR, roboTAPP, robo-eTEPP); minimally invasive endocrine surgery: Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy (MIP), thyroidectomy for benign and malignant nodules, laparoscopic robotic assisted removal of adrenal gland and endocrine pancreas nodules.
“As a surgeon, I am reminded everyday how frightening operations can seem to people. I strive to provide empathetic and compassionate care to all of my patients. My staff and I will always treat you with the respect and dignity you deserve during this stressful time in your life,” said Dr. Chen.
Dr. Rafael Lemus-Rangel is a world renowned robotic surgeon who practices out of the greater Los Angeles area. Dr. Lemus-Rangel received his medical degree at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine and completed his surgical training a Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. He has been a practicing surgeon for the past 10 years.
Dr. Lemus-Rangel is affiliated with several hospitals and coordinates the robotic programs at these institutions. He is one of the highest surigical volume surgeons in his field. For over a decade, he has dedicated himself to treating each one of his patients in a compassionate and professional manner. It is stressed that each patient is taken care of for the duration of the medical procedure; from the initial contact through the entirety of the recovery process, and leaves completely satisfied with his or her experience.
Dr. Lemus-Rangel goes the extra mile to establish a friendly and professional relationship with his patients to ensure that they feel safe and informed. Dr. Lemus-Rangel has performed hundreds of operations and has demonstrated an outstanding overall success rate. Robotics surgery is a relatively new field, so it is understandable that patients will have questions and concerns about what to expect.
Dr. Lemus-Rangel is committed to answering all questions and alleviating all doubt that patients might have prior to the procedure. He encourages his patients to vet the process as thoroughly as possible to fully understand what is involved in the procedure.
