Imagine yourself cruising down Highway 14 on a hot summer day. The radio is on, the air conditioner is blasting, and it’s nothing but you, your car, and then open road traveling through the California desert ahead. You begin to pass green exit signs for places like Placerita Canyon, Golden Valley Road, and Via Princessa. Before you know it, you’ve driven right through our hometown, Santa Clarita Valley, and begin to venture north toward the great beyond. You look to your left and to your right, noticing there is nothing but miles of sand and brush as far as the eye can see. Then, intricate rock formations begin to present themselves as you venture deeper into the chaparral region. Like giant clay moldings placed by some divine being, these rocks lead you to a less-traveled place named Acton – an area that looks no different than any other desert community.

 A Mediterranean Retreat

Think about the ageless remains of a region seemingly frozen in time for over 500 years, embellished with Renaissance artwork and architecture reflecting a popular fascination with science, social interaction, and humanistic beauty. The unique essence and atmosphere of this Mediterranean region is the only one of it’s kind in the world with no other places in comparison. However, atop the hills of Rolling Ridge Drive in Saugus, there is a home that comes close. Joe and Anita Gage have been Santa Clarita residents for 21 years, making a home that is their idea of a two-acre, Mediterranean retreat.

For the Love of Books Old Town Newhall Public Library

On September 29, 2012 the Santa Clarita Public Library division welcomed a new branch to the city, in the heart of the valley, complete with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and a speech by former Mayor Frank Ferry. For Santa Clarita, a new city library had been long overdue. With taxpayers and local donations funding the project, Old Town Newhall kicked their beautification program into high gear with $29 million dollars that had been collected for their biggest investment and project of 2010; the new Old Town Newhall City Library.

Kick Off the Holidays with the 32nd Annual Holiday Home Tour and Gift Boutique
Good cheer and tidings of the season will abound during Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s 32nd Annual Holiday Home Tour festivities on November 30 and December 1. The “Holiday Surprise and Delight” themed events will benefit Henry Mayo’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which opened in June 2012.
During this spectacular holiday event, visitors will have an opportunity to tour three homes decorated in unique themes of festive holiday décor in the heart of Santa Clarita Valley neighborhoods including Placerita Canyon and Westridge (behind the gates).

A Charming Chateau in the Heart of Newhall

Each and every home is an echo of its owners, a mirror of their inner creativity. Of course, this is no exception to the home of Marvin and Gail Smith. Residents of the Santa Clarita Valley for over 20 years, they were drawn by their friends…and this quaint house, reminiscent of the decadent French chateaus of Europe.
The house is textured in a smooth plaster of ivory, accented by the stone entrance, done in a classic herringbone pattern.
