Greetings to you, our SCV élite Magazine readers. Can you believe this is the April/May issue? I feel like it was just yesterday that we were saying Happy New Year. I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun. Speaking of fun, we have an amazing issue packed with unique gems in Santa Clarita.
On our cover this month is Roger Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. We are extremely proud of our hospital that was recently awarded a four-star rating with Hospital Care, a significant accomplishment, read more about it on page 8.
May is Nurses Appreciation month, which kicks off with Nurses Appreciation week May 6-12. Maybe you have experienced the TLC of the hard-working nurses of Henry Mayo. See our feature on page 10.
Our first annual Ultimate Medical Awards was a huge success and we have the winners! If you are looking for a great doctor or healthcare professional, we have you covered from head to toe … the results start on page 14.
We love featuring close-ups of Santa Clarita residents. In this issue we have the very talented Diane Cusumano, whose hobby turned quickly into a successful business; television/film producer Kevin Manthei; Jet Jergensmeyer, a new young star on the rise; Naomi Young, a wonderfully talented cultural artist; èlite sports announcer, Andrew Yakub, as well as Head coach Hans Kirsting of Cal State Los Angeles Women’s Golf Team. They are all inspiring stories and I encourage you to learn more about these extraordinary individuals.
In this issue, we introduce you to some dynamic people. If you don’t know Mike and Ann-Marie Bjorkman, here’s your chance to meet them. They are both business professionals and philanthropists, are always willing to give of their time (and money) to local non-profits, and so much more! Read their story on page 64.
Our second Dynamic Couple is Dr. Daniel Azani and Dr. Gilbert Snow of Snow Orthodontics, who are quickly becoming known in Santa Clarita for their involvement with the Parks and Recreation Department. The business donates free mouth guards to football players and free dental exams for local kids.
One story that really touched Arnold and myself involves CASA of Los Angeles. CASA helps improve the lives of children in the dependency system. Read their story and become involved.
Have you ever heard of Million Little and Arts of Santa Clarita? These two new non-profits are doing great things in the SCV that may surprise you.
Looking for a little vacation? Something not too far away? Why not plan a trip to Palm Springs? Highlighted in our Great Escape feature this issue, we give you all the tips and hot spots to hit.
Our million-dollar home this month is a real beauty. And guess what? It’s for sale. Check out the picturesque landscape on page 66. The exterior is magical and the spectacular interior will pull you in.
We have special features about the expansion of the Santa Clarita Studio and a story we call “SCV Reel Talk”. It explores all the filming going on in this town. The SCV EDC also has a feature.
Our Fabulous Finds cater to Mother’s Day for that perfect gift. Don’t forget Mother’s Day is May 13th.
Make sure you read the Be Social column by Claudia Sheridan, as well as our Eve Wine 101 column by Eve Bushman. Eve, with others, is hosting a new event called Wine On the Roof, for the WiSH Education Foundation. See page 92.
Are you getting hungry? See our Readers Choice Dining Guide for the best bites in town on page 88.
You love desserts? Well, in this issue, Tina, of Baking With Tina, creates a No Bake S’mores Bar. It looks so delicious I might have to try making it myself. If you attempt the baking challenge, please take a picture and tag scvelitemagazine.
Looking for something to do In Santa Clarita? We have a super easy listing, see the calendar on page 50.
In our Looking Back feature, meet Dr. Joan Lucid who has spent the last 37 years in our school system. She is such an inspiration and you will enjoy finding out why.
Oh, and I almost forgot, this years SCV Dancing With Our Stars (DWOS) is back. As you may know, SCV DWOS is a friendly competition that brings together nonprofits to raise money and awareness of their cause. We are looking for nonprofit organizations to step up and join in on the fun. The tentative date of this event is August 24. Please contact me to sign up today.
Thank you for reading and please enjoy SCV èlite Magazine.

Until next time,
Alexander Hafizi
