A Model Citizen Beautiful Inside and Out
Liliana West is doing it ALL: a successful real estate consultant, wife of 28 years to Bill West, a Walt Disney Imagineer, loving mom of an amazing 13-year-old son, antique dealer, local volunteer, and to top it off… a runway model!
Liliana emigrated from Poland in the early 1980’s. When she arrived, she quickly learned English and while still in college, worked full time to complete her education, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. Because her secret dream was to become an astronaut, she landed a job as a Computer consultant at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, where she worked on the Cassini, Magellan and other spacecraft missions as an IT Manager. She loved the job but disliked her long commute and the long hours spent in front of a computer which caused severe pain in her wrists.
Instead of enduring further pain, in 2002 she decided to pursue her other life’s passion. She always loved homes and helping people achieve their dreams, so she switched careers to become a real estate consultant.
Liliana was first introduced to modeling by her model-mom in her home country. The two were featured in a Polish clothing catalog when Liliana was just four years old. “I do have the keepsake catalog, which my mom passed on to me”.
She never really pursued modeling, but fate had a different plan for her. First, in 1984, encouraged by friends and family, she entered and won the Miss Polonia pageant in New Jersey. In 2006, again she was encouraged and entered, and was First Runner Up in the Mrs. Santa Clarita Pageant. Then she started modeling off and on in local events, such as Santa Clarita’s Rescues on The Runway Fashion Shows, our local designer Mul Tayoba’s Timeless Fashion Shows, as well as Henry Mayo Holiday Home Tour fashion shows. She got her first big break in 2014 when she was discovered by the producer of Metropolitan Fashion Week, Eduardo Khawam, who asked her to model in his Beverly Hills runway fashion show.
“…It kind of blossomed from there. I have worked every L.A.-based Metropolitan Fashion Week since then, and such famed shows as the Los Angeles Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Style Fashion Week, Art Hearts Fashion Week, Orange County Fashion Week and many others.”
Modeling for her is interesting and fun but it is only Liliana’s hobby. Her day job is real estate consulting. With over 16-years-experience, now working out of the HomeSmart Evergreen office in Valencia, she helps first-time home buyers, move-up buyers, empty-nesters wanting to scale down, as well as relocation clients and investors. Additionally, she finds qualified agents for her clients moving out-of-state.
When modeling, Liliana prefers to stay close to home and family, as well as her real estate clients. She continued, “I really enjoy modeling. Certainly, the thrill of being in New York Fashion Week at Madison Square Garden, doing my walk on a fabulous runway in front of a sold-out audience of 5000 is exhilarating, but it’s also long hours and a lot of standing in a model lineup in 6” heels, waiting our turn to hit the runway. On the other hand, the thrill of making a young family’s American Dream come true when they get the key to their very first home is incomparable, so this is really where my heart is.”
One of the many hats Liliana wears is also an antique dealer at our local antique mall. “I have a small booth there, called Lil’ Treasures (W-6).” While traveling, she likes to collect antiques for herself and to sell.
“I’m quite busy and very often it’s hard for me to find the time to relax, but just being busy keeps me happy.” She somehow manages to balance her hectic schedule and still finds time to give back to the community. In the late 90’s, Liliana fell in love with the history of our late town hero’s home and became a docent at the Hart mansion. She quickly became one of the Friends of Hart Park and Museum board members. Also helping with the mansion’s upkeep and art-directed the quarterly newsletters for the membership. Her husband, Bill, took over her volunteer functions there shortly after they had their son in 2005.
Always wanting to contribute more to the community, around 2002 Liliana began volunteering for the Henry Mayo Holiday Home Tour. “I really enjoy doing it, it’s a lot hard work, especially when coordinating a home, but it’s also a lot of fun and for such a great cause.”
Apart from modeling Liliana likes to do outdoor activities, spoil her pets and spend time with family.
Her advice to women is to “have a good attitude, be kind to yourself and others, eat right, keep moving, take good care of your skin, try to stay organized, and go after your dreams!”
