A Message from the Associate Publisher Alexander Hafizi
The Holidays are here and we at élite Magazine couldn’t be more excited. We believe this is one of the best times of year, so let’s deck the halls with boughs and holly and join Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and their Holiday Home Tour, a perfect place to kick-off the holidays. We have a sneak peek inside the beautifully decorated homes. Be sure to get your tickets and have a great time for a great cause, it is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.
Our cover story in this issue is truly an inspiring story! Riley Cline is a family friend, she and I practically grew up together and over the past year, she battled cancer and won! Her can-do attitude is amazing and we are so pleased to feature her, please see our cover story on page 8. In this issue, we celebrate our Ultimate Ladies in Business awards. See the winners starting on page 10. We had some fun this year with the photographs of the winners and I have to give a big shout out to Michael Asmar of Joie de Vivre Photographie for making our vision come true. Also thank you for the photo above of my fiancé, Arnold Bryant and I. Be sure to congratulate our winners when you see them and enjoy our feature.
As you flip the pages of this issue, you may notice a common denominator. From ballerinas, teachers reseaching outer space, an air force pilot/commercial pilot. Yes, you got it, they are all successful women in very important roles.
Over the years, Santa Clarita has been lucky to have had women trailblazers. We feature some of these women who helped make our city what it is today. We have also put together a list of nonprofits that support women. Holly Schroeder of the SCV EDC explains why companies need women in leadership in her column and if you are wondering how ladies in business seem to do it all, check out page 20 where we actually ask that question, you will be surprised at some of the answers. We have a great feature on a dynamic female trio from PPG Aerospace. These ladies make up the dream team behind transparencies made with PPG Solaron Blue Protection UV+ blocking technology, read all about if on page 52.
Our SCV Reel Talk talks about holiday movies filmed right here in the SCV. It’s surprising how much is filmed in our community. Speaking of filming, Suzanne DeCuir, a Valencia artist, is the subject of a new short documentary produced by a Los Angeles documentary film team. We are excited to share this story with you.
Looking to get out of town? Eve Bushman went to Napa Valley and took us with her. Read about it on page 62. Prefer to stay a little closer to home but still have fun, what about Santa Monica? So much to do and so much to see. Maybe leaving town isn’t your thing? Stay home and try out Larry McClements delicious recipe. We would love to see you post your foodie results on social media and don’t forget to tag us. Our fabulous finds are here to help you find that perfect gift for that special someone.
Did you know about Gibbons Conservation Center located in Santa Clarita? Well it has been around for 40 years and they are now in need of a new home, can you help? See their story on page 70. Speaking of new homes, SRD Straightening Reins has a new home and we had the opportunity to sit down with some of the teens that have benefitted from their services. SRD Straightening Reins is a nonprofit that helps teens with issues through caring for the animals at the ranch. Don’t forget to read the column from the Santa Clarita Art Commission. We have a special feature from Logix, who opened a new branch in the Bridgeport marketplace to help serve our community more. They are such a great bank and gives back to our non-profits constantly. Read about it on page 68. Our calendar of events is filled with great things to do over the holidays and going into 2020.
In our next issue we will have four categories of winners: Ultimate Beauty, Bridal, Business and Fitness. Be sure you look out for those winners in our February/March issue. Looking to vote for your next favorites? The next Ultimate Awards are our very popular Ultimate Medical Professionals, voting will start soon and will be until January 18, 2020.
There is something for everyone in this issue. We hope you enjoy reading our magazine.
