Can you believe 2021 is coming to an end? The weather is cooler and it’s such a wonderful time of the year, the holidays are here, and we are getting ready for some family fun.
Our cover story is none other than the wonderful Barbara Myler, she has such a beautiful family, and we are happy to feature her in this holiday edition. In this issue, you can see who the winners of our 7th Annual Ultimate Ladies in Business are, these women are leaders and professionals who were voted on by you, so thank you for voting! Speaking of voting we have four categories in our next Ultimate Awards, Beauty, Bridal, Business and Fitness. You can start voting now at www.scvelitemagazine.com/ultimate-awards, vote every day until December 16. We love receiving updates and being able to share them with you. An update from FivePoint Valencia, who are highlighting the amenities and model homes. Our very own Henry Mayo Hospital received national recognition for efforts to improve stroke treatment. Kaiser Permanente has shared some simple ways to be kind to yourself. Our Santa Clarita Arts Commission featured women in art, and one of our close ups is Dr. Okoye-Johnson the founder of Eagle Collegiate Academy, she is a lady on a mission, and we wish her great success.
Our SCV Reel Talk introduces you to Karen Bryden, President of SCV Locations. The SCV EDC’s update lets us know that tourism is coming back to the SCV. It’s so good to hear things are slowly improving in our valley. Logix Federal Credit Union wants us to get to know Ashur Betmaleck one of their managers.
Billy Osborne is a local R&B, jazz, producer, and composer we are pleased to feature him in this issue, such an interesting story. Have you met Brian Fleming of Valencia Acura? We invite you to get to know him a little better. We also feature Dr. Leighton Reynolds, whose book Moon Over Seaville features the Santa Clarita Valley and the challenges we confront every year with fires. Although he changed the name of the city, you will recognize some of the local names and locations he refers to in the book.
Let’s get into the holiday spirit with Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Holiday Home Tour and our Fabulous Finds Gift Guide. We have a little sneak peek of each house in our magazine. It’s going to be a wonderful virtual event held at the Hyatt Valencia. The homes are beautiful this year and this may inspire you to purchase a new home, if so three of the top realtors in town have some great listings.
A longtime business in Santa Clarita says goodbye to the community. Consumer’s Furniture Gallery is closing its doors, we know Santa Clarita will miss this beloved store, so farewell Consumers!
Have you heard of The Junkluggers? They will lug away all your junk, how great is that? I definitely can’t wait to give them a try, I’m sure we all have some junk we could get rid of, consider them and give them a call today at 1-800-LUG-JUNK.
We really do have something for everyone in this magazine. How about wine lovers? Eve Bushman believes wine lovers deserve a Renaissance Glass, find out why when you read her article. Larry has a wonderful recipe of a winter salad with homemade Vinaigrette. Looking for some entertainment? The Santa Clarita International Film Festival is here in December. This is an event you won’t want to miss, sounds like it’s going to be amazing.
As many of you may know I serve on three different boards for nonprofits in our town. Those three are Circle of Hope, WiSH Education Foundation and JCI.
For the last two and a half years I have been the Chairman of the Board for Circle of Hope, a cancer support organization that helps people effected by cancer in our community. Whether it be financially, mentally or emotionally, we are here for our clients in need. My term as Chairman has come to an end and I am humbled by the experience of leadership, it has been a wonderful fulfilling time for me. Being able to see the money we raise go to our clients is such a great feeling and I couldn’t be more happy for Christy Grable who will be taking over from me. I can’t wait to help Christy and watch her thrive in this role. Cheers to many more years of serving the cancer community. For more information about Circle of Hope go to www.circleofhopeinc.org.
In 2021 I was the Vice President of Marketing & Communication at the JCI State Level in the JCI California chapter and in 2022 I am excited to say that I will be the 25th President of JCI Santa Clarita in 2022. For those of you that don’t know what JCI stands for, it’s the Junior Chamber International, a young leadership organization that builds community leaders through training, projects, and programs such as SCV 40 Under Forty, Santa’s Helpers and all kinds of events. For more information about JCI Santa Clarita go to www.JCISantaclarita.com.
WiSH Education Foundation is the other board I serve on. WiSH bridges the gap in state education funding because state funding does not meet all the needs. They fund student programs that are not funded by other sources and believe that every student deserves the tools for success. They get no outside funding and raise every penny through donations, events and grants. 100% of dollars raised stay in the Hart District student programs. For more information about the WiSH Education Foundation go to www.wishEducationFoundation.org
We at èlite Magazine and Santa Clarita Magazine can support your nonprofit and/or promote your business to Santa Clarita just email us at info@scvelitemagazine.com.
I hope you enjoy reading our magazine.
Until next year Alexander Hafizi
