Sierra Montessori Preschool

Canyon Country

Sierra Montessori Preschool’s curriculum is based around the idea that every child is smart in his or her own way. We focus on meeting each individual child’s developmental and educational needs. Children are guided and encouraged by our experienced teachers, and advance through each program at their own pace. Because children learn best when they are actively involved, classrooms include rich learning centers to explore. Self-directed investigations and play build problem-solving and critical thinking skills. We give children the foundations that prepare them for elementary school and set them on a path of life-long learning.
Congratulations to Lalanie Herath, owner, as they recently received the SCV Leadership Award for Minority/Woman owned business, an award nominated by the community and chosen by a Selection Committee.

Princess Cruises
24305 Town Center Drive, Santa Clarita
www.princess.com
1-800-Princess
On behalf of the nearly 2,000 employees of Princess Cruises, we are so pleased to be named the 2013 large business in Santa Clarita. We established our customer service center in this Valley in 1998, and our international headquarters soon followed in 2001. Thank you to the community for recognizing the significance of having the third largest cruise company in the world “homported” in Santa Clarita.
Our company first set sail in 1965 with a single ship cruising to Mexico, and soon became one of the most recognized names in cruising in part because the TV show The Love Boat was set aboard our vessels. The show was widely credited with fueling the dramatic expansion of the cruise industry. In the years since, Princess has frequently paved the way in the cruise industry, often pioneering concepts that have since been adopted by the entire cruise industry.
Today, we have 17 magnificent ships, an array of innovative onboard options, all in an environment of exceptional customer service. Our newest vessel, Royal Princess, recently made headlines when The Duchess of Cambridge became the ship’s godmother. Together, our ships carry 1.7 million passengers each year to destinations around the globe, on six continents.

The Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation was established in 1984 to help raise vital funds for expanding services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. In just the last ten years, the Foundation has raised more than $30 million for new services and expansion of new services for the growing Santa Clarita Valley community.
The Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation was recently honored at the 2nd Annual SCV Leadership Awards for its Non-Profit Leadership. This award was presented to the Foundation for its outstanding dedication to the community.
“This award is very meaningful to us,” states Diana Vose, President of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation. “It means that we’re recognized as a Foundation that is successful helping Henry Mayo deliver the best in health care for our community. We support a system based on philanthropy, to increase community awareness and raise vital funds for the hospital’s initiatives.”
Led by a volunteer board of directors, the Foundation has raised money throughout the years for new equipment, technology and programs, including the beautiful expansion of the Emergency Department, Roberta G. Veloz Cardiac Cath Lab, Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, Wayne and Connie Spears Intensive Care Unit, Kim and Steven Ullman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Akbar Hasan Infusion Center to name a few. Many of the events hosted by the Foundation have become tradition in our community, such as the Holiday Home Tour and the popular Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo Drive Safe Golf Classic.
“The board members are instrumental in the success of the Foundation, and our staff is truly the “foundation” of the Foundation,” Vose said. “This wouldn’t be possible without their support as well as the support from the community and our generous donors. We have a great hospital with a great medical staff that people want to support.” |

Celebrating nearly three decades of providing excellent service to the SCV, Camelot Moving and Storage takes pride in the relationships it has established with its residential and corporate clients throughout the years. Its high standard of service and commitment to the community has earned the company a win in the category of Best Family Owned Business at the 2nd Annual SCV Leadership Awards.
Camelot was nominated with their philanthropic service to the community and beyond. Some of the recipients of Camelot’s efforts include Domestic Violence Center, Boys & Girls Club, Single Mothers Outreach, to name a few.
In 1986, Billy and Carolyn Kornfeld created a company that would provide moving services for their community. They offered moving services with one small moving truck, and throughout the years, have expanded their business to meet increasing demands. Today, Camelot Moving and Storage serves the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys and relocates residents moving out of state.
“This award means a lot to us,” states Billy. “I thank my wife and her brilliant planning and incredibly driven work ethic to enable me to leave the road as a truck driver and to work side-by-side with her in both running our company and raising our family. I thank our kids, who have willingly sacrificed their summer vacations for the business. Our employees, both past and present, many of whom have been with us for almost two decades, have represented our company and brand with pride and integrity. And, of course, I thank the people of Santa Clarita. Your trust is the greatest badge of honor. The Camelot family thanks you for your many decades of support!”

Single Mothers Outreach
23780 Newhall Ave., Ste. 203, Newhall
singlemothersoutreach.org
661-288-0117
Originally founded in 1995, Single Mothers Outreach is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization empowering single parents and their children by providing hope, support and resources so that families can become self-sustaining. The organization was recently awarded at the SCV Leadership Awards, and was presented with the Non-Profit Leadership award based upon their commitment and dedication to the community.
“This award affirms that the community supports the work we do to empower single parents,” states DaAnne Smith, Executive Director. “It is also a banner of honor that reflects the fruit of five years’ hard work demonstrating our nonprofit’s value and need in the community…We passionately believe that when you strengthen a single parent, you strengthen the family; when you strengthen the family, you strengthen the whole community.”
Earlier this year, SMO opened a new store, Closet on Main, in downtown Newhall, providing an alternative to corporate retail shopping. The store has given the community another shopping choice, but with the difference that every dollar spent at Closet on Main also helps strengthen Santa Clarita single parent families. As they like to say, you can “Shop Without Guilt” at Closet on Main! It has also given our community additional volunteer opportunities since Closet on Main is run by an all-volunteer staff under Margo Miller-Hudson’s leadership.
“Our success would not be possible without our board of directors who work so hard to protect SMO’s mission and expand funding opportunities like Closet on Main. I would also like to thank Margo Miller-Hudson, whose expertise and stellar reputation set the stage for Closet on Main’s phenomenal success.”
