39th Annual Rampage Presented by William S. Hart Regiment
If you happened to be in Valencia last November 5th, you might remember the thundering noises coming from the College of the Canyons all afternoon. Like an earthquake making the ground rumble, thirty-two Southern California schools came together to compete in the 38th Annual Rampage Field Show Competition. With over 6,000 attendees and some 1,865 performers, the massive battle of the bands is the biggest event of the year for William S. Hart High Regiment.
For the first half of the school year, the Hart Regiment is gearing into competition season. The Regiment is composed of Hart’s Marching Band and Colorguard; whose students prepare for Rampage like their lives depend on it. As the single biggest fundraising event for the Regiment, a lot is always riding on the annual event going well. Starting in July, you might be able to hear the band practicing from your window if you live close enough to the school. Kids spend hours baking in the hot sun, running through their formations for hours on end, pushing props all over the field, and all while learning the music they must play perfectly at the same time. Despite the intense pressure, Hart High School Regiment Marching Band & Colorguard has taken home 1st place Gold at the SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) Division 4A Field Championships fifteen times. They have won more championships than any other school in the state, bringing home the glory and trophies to decorate Mr. Bailey’s band classroom.
This year, the 39th Annual Rampage will be taking place on November 4th. All the high schools in the district will be coming to compete, along with many others within Southern California. From 8 am to 9 pm, over 80% of COC’s campus will be occupied by rival competing bands all vying for first place. This isn’t all just for fun, this is serious business. In the stands sit six professional judges, scoring on percussion, auxiliary, general effect and performance of music and visuals, with each having a factor of complexity and achievement. Once the competition day is done and the last performers have cleared the field, the main event that everyone is waiting for will begin: the drumline and the awards ceremony. Bystanders and volunteers alike run from their seats so they can get a better view of the massive drumline, filming one of the largest percussion parades in the state. Onlookers swear it feels like an earthquake, hundreds of students marching in formation and playing their percussion instruments.
For the performers of the Hart Regiment, Rampage can be the most important day of the year. While not only a long day of competition, the Regiment hosts a massive event and performs for their local community at the same time. Taking home the first place trophy is just an added bonus. And this event is successful in part thanks to the almost 600 volunteers from the students, parents, alumni, ROTC, and community members.
Bring your family and friends for this day of great entertainment, food and fun. In addition to the field show performances, there will be food vendors, merchandise booths and many prizes to be raffled.
Tickets will be available for admission: $15 for adults, $10 dollars for students and seniors, and free for children under age 5. For more information or to make a donation, go to www.HartRegiment.com or call 661.347.8461 For more information check out https://www.hartregiment.com/rampage.
