Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit

Last Spring, hospital admin staff moved out of the hospital’s main building to make room for a brand new and larger intensive care unit. This expansion improves Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s capacity to care for the most critically ill and injured patients, a much-needed addition due to growing demand for healthcare in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The new 18-bed intensive care unit is expected to open this Spring.
“The new ICU is a highly specialized unit with technologically-advanced equipment and a calming atmosphere to help patients severely impaired by trauma, disease or illness,” said Dee Rickett RN, MSN, director of critical care services at Henry Mayo. “Every patient room will have a window to the outside and our theme of bringing outdoor nature inside is carried through with calming color hues of green and brown-wood looking floors.”
Amenities include a more comfortable and private waiting area for patients’ families and friends, as well as a private family conference room and a dedicated elevator to allow easy access from the emergency department and the hospital’s imaging services.
“Expanding and improving the ICU enhances our continuing goal to provide the best patient care for our community,” explains President/CEO Roger Seaver.
Completion of the new ICU is one of the promises made to the community during the public input process associated with the hospital’s 15-year master plan.
Here are some of the highlights: A more aesthetically appealing environment for patients and new equipment.
Specialized rooms with negative airflow to help doctors and nurses better control infections. Plus, two rooms designed specifically to meet the comfort and safety needs of heavier patients.
Improved lighting as well as a room design that allows nurses to reach more easily behind the patient’s head for medical equipment.
Large windows to the outside to bring in natural light.
A family area within the room which includes a data center where they can plug in a laptop and access the Internet while at the hospital.
Improved privacy of special consultation rooms.
