To Protect and Provide – Local man shares his drive for community service in business and life

Not every man runs his business according to the same philosophy he lives his life by.  But Lindahl Lucas does.  A man of humble beginnings, Lindahl quickly learned the value of hard work and the necessity of a charitable community.  By the time he was out on his own, Lindahl already had a lifetime of experience under his belt, which he carried dutifully into adulthood.  Life had made a self-starter out of Lindahl, and he was ready to rise to the occasion.
“I’ve seen times when I had nothing, and I’ve seen times when I could be that charitable hand for someone else,” Lindahl said.  “I’ve had to work really hard to get where I am, and I appreciate it all.”
When he was just a baby, Lindahl’s parents divorced, and at an early age, he and his siblings were placed into foster care.  Though his mother regained custody after three years, one income wasn’t enough to put food on the table every day.
“She worked as hard as she could.  If she could have done more, she would have,” Lindahl recalled.  “But there were times when we didn’t have anything to eat.  I used to love going to school because it meant I could eat breakfast and lunch.”
With his mother as his role model, Lindahl worked diligently to secure a better future.  He was a Collegiate All American athlete and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Lindahl was the only one to graduate high school, and he earned a full scholarship to California Lutheran University, where he still holds the school record for decathlon.
While he was in college, he earned his insurance license, and shortly after graduating, he began work with a national insurance agency.  However, he still wasn’t climbing fast enough to support his dreams, so Lindahl really went for it.
“From day one, I’ve known that if I want anything in this life, I’m going to have to work hard for it,” he said.
In 1989, he founded Lucas Insurance Services, a full-service provider that covers all products, from life and health insurance to home, car and more.  The firm’s mission is twofold: to protect clients and their most valuable possessions, and to give back to the community it serves.
When describing his focus on community service, Lindahl compares a person’s ability to make a difference to ripples in a lake; whether you throw a pebble or a boulder, one action alone creates ripples that reach all the way across the pond – one ripple leading to the next.
“I know from experience that a little help or a lot of help – the biggest boulder or the smallest pebble – can make a world of difference,” he said.  “So we involve ourselves in everything we possibly can.”
Over the years, Lindahl and his company have donated food and clothes, supported local sports teams from nearly every high school or league, and helped feed the hungry on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  They’ve supported in some way – donating, attending or volunteering – many of the valley’s most prominent non-profits, including Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer, Circle of Hope Inc., Special Olympics, Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, SCV Senior Center and more.  The company most recently raised $900 for the Special Olympics, and the company has been a longtime supporter of VIA’s Connecting to Success program, helping connect one generation of leaders to the next.
“It’s all about being positive and lifting up the community I serve,” he said.  “Positivity has carried me through; as bad as you think it may be, it’s going get better if you believe it will.  It’s not about what happens to you; it’s about how you deal with it.”
