41 years of Making A House Feel like Home
Furniture and family make a home. But for the Moser family, furniture makes a living. Consumers Furniture Gallery is a family business located in the heart of Santa Clarita, owned and operated by Greg Moser.
Greg’s father Clem, who worked as a contractor at the time, was approached by his brother-in-law to help build the furniture store back in 1978. For the past 41 years, Consumers Furniture Gallery has served the Greater Santa Clarita Valley “offering quality name brand furniture and unbeatable prices,” Greg said.
In 1985, Greg’s mother Mary got involved with the store after moving the family from the San Fernando Valley to Santa Clarita. Greg was attending college at UCLA for medical school and decided to take a year off in 1987. Seeing how invested his parents were to the store, he fell in love with the retail business, no longer interested in pursuing a career in medicine. He’s now been at the store for 32 years, and since his parents retired, has been running the operations for 15 years.
Consumers Furniture Gallery has had three locations since its inception. The first place it called home was in a small shopping center on Camp Plenty Road; a year later it moved to a spot where the Cross Valley Connector was built. Since 2004, it has been at its current address: 21048 Golden Triangle Road, in a 45,000-square-foot showroom.
Walking into the front of the store, you are immediately met by dozens of family and living room displays. Rows of recliners are lined up along with a huge selection of dining and bedroom furniture of the latest styles and designs. The mattress gallery in the back corner displays over 50 beds of Serta, Simmons, and Diamond mattresses. “We also have the largest collection of sofas and sectionals in the Santa Clarita Valley,” Greg said.
Consumers Furniture Gallery carries massage chairs by Cozzia and a full line of leather sofas, sectionals, and recliners by Palliser and Omnia. From lift recliners to Zero Gravity recliners, “it’s like sitting like an astronaut and helps relieve lower back pain,” Greg said. The store’s 100% top grain leather gallery offers hundreds of styles and colors, all made in the United States.
One thing that makes this furniture store unique is the ability to choose style, fabrics, and colors to completely customized the way you want it. This is made possible by many of its vendors, including North American Wood Furniture. They specifically cater to bedroom, home office, and entertainment furniture with choices of 30 different colors, different handles, and types of wood offered. The store has upholstered sofas and sectionals by names such as John Michael, Jonathan Louis, and New Dimension that allow for custom sizes and color options.
Another thing that sets Consumers Furniture Gallery apart from its competitors is its same day delivery. “Our motto in the store is, if you can touch it, you can take it,” Greg said, “We sell items right off the floor.”
In addition, the store shares its space with Carpet Clearance Warehouse, so flooring and furniture can become a one-stop shop.
One of the most rewarding things, Greg says is being able to help customers design their dream home. “We have multi-generational customers, which shows how loyal our customer base is,” he said. The employees are also loyal; some have been with the store for over 30 years. Majority of the salespeople are designers and will make house calls to assist with customers design projects. Greg says” We have a very experienced sales team. One day for fun we added the combined years our staff has been involved in the furniture industry and we hit 150! Now, that’s a lot of experience”.
Some of the local charities the store supports include the Michael Hoefflin Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Child and Family Services, and the local high schools.
Greg’s goal for the future is to stay the course, with no plans of retirement right now. He has three children: Austin who is in medical school; Kyle who is in law school; and Ashtyn who is a sophomore at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. His wife Lisa helps out at the store with some of the buying from the vendors.
