With a dog, a cat, some chickens, and a goat, plus a husband and three sons, who “add to the chaos,” it is hard to believe that local artist Lorelle Miller has any time to paint the town red or any color for that matter.

Lorelle’s popular oil and chalk street paintings can be found all around the Santa Clarita Valley. Her art has more recently been featured at the Loose Goose Wine Festival, as well as permanently on the walls of their private wine tasting room. Her work will soon exceed beyond our Valley. In May, Lorelle has been invited to Sarasota, Florida as a guest artist to participate in the 2nd Annual Burns Square “Avenida de Colores” Chalk Festival. In 2008, Lorelle entered an exhibit for the Santa Clarita Artist Association. She’s won many awards in the past for her exhibits, however last year; she won a gold award—her first for an oil painting. “It was satisfying,” stated Lorelle, “I’ve won a lot, but to win a gold in oil was great.” As a freelance artist and a devoted College of the Canyons art teacher, she finds time to work with other local artists creating art on undeveloped land. The community exhibit is known as the Chasing Open Spaces Project. Lorelle truly embraces all artistic techniques, from sculpting to street painting and pastels to oils. She possesses a desire and a natural gift for figurative painting. She calls it, “working from life,” and it “is in some respect a self portrait of oneself.” With painted and sculpted subjects such as mermaids and female warriors, I, personally could not have agreed more. Lorelle is a strong believer and supporter of the art world. Her advice to young aspiring artists or anyone who has a dream is simple, “Never stop…I know it will be hard, life gets in the way of art a lot. You may have to quit for some time, but never stop.” For more information please visit www.lorellemiller.com. |
