Fostering Pawsibilities with Brooke Edwards
“Everybody can be part of the solution and make a difference. We love to rescue pets in need and care for them, but sometimes their people need help too and that’s where our passion lies.”
Brooke Edwards is the founder of Fostering Pawsibilities, a pet rescue here in Santa Clarita. From the day their doors opened, Brooke and her fellow animal-loving volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that they save as many furry lives as possible, while ensuring their people aren’t overlooked, too.
“I’ve always loved animals and even saved a few stray kittens long ago before I truly knew what ‘rescuing’ even was,” she shares. “During the pandemic, I saw that a rescue needed help fostering newborn puppies and I reached out.. I fell in love with it and wanted to help more, that’s when Fostering Pawsibilities was born.”
It was easy for Brooke to dedicate her time and efforts into an organization like Fostering Pawsibilities. She has the heart for it, and she also has the support of the community who volunteer, donate funds, send supplies, and foster animals for the organization. She credits them with being the ones who make it all happen.
So far, they’ve rescued over one hundred pets and counting; there’s a lot that she loves about what she does, and it’s next to impossible for her to pinpoint the most impactful part of her journey so far.
“Sometimes people get stuck in awful situations with their pets. Often, they just need a little guidance without being judged or ridiculed, their hearts already breaking. We’ve been able to help people keep their pets when they thought there was no hope and we’ve also helped rehome pets when there was no other option. We try to keep everybody in touch so it’s truly a happy ending, although bittersweet.”
Brooke sees an incredibly bright future awaiting Fostering Pawsibilities. Their 501c3 approval is in the final stages, and she’s currently seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to keep things moving and growing so more lives can be saved.
The majority of their rescues are felines and canines, with a few guinea pigs and a bunny thrown in the mix. Their team sets each pet up for success by keeping housing them in caring foster homes, providing quality food, proper vet care, socialization and training, toys, and of course the most important thing of all: love.
Most adopters are found through social media and word-of-mouth. Once someone applies to adopt a pet, Brooke and her team begin the adoption process behind the scenes. They assess each home ensure the best match for the pet and the adopter.
There are a variety of opportunities to get involved at Fostering Pawsibilities. They accept donations and offer ways to volunteer in person with the animals as well as remote positions to keep things running for those who are interested.
“We are immeasurably grateful for all of the support we continue to receive – please reach out with any questions, ideas, or fundraising partnerships. We love supporting our amazing community, as well,” Brooke says.
You can find them on Instagram at @fostering_pawsibilities, on Facebook as “Fostering Pawsibilities – Pet Rescue” or reach out via email to learn more about what you can do and apply to become a foster: fosteringpawsibilities@gmail.com.
“All resources for rescues remain limited across the board unless people step in,” says Brooke. “Fostering is a huge help and makes such a difference. Yes, you CAN foster! While you may shed a tear when they get adopted, it’s the only way we can help them. Fostering quite literally saves lives and it’s so rewarding.”
