He played an evolved human, has befriended ghosts and is now the younger version of a really “creepy dude.” He’s Sterling Beaumon, a young and vibrant actor and Santa Clarita resident who just returned from filming on the LOST set in Hawaii.  I had the wonderful opportunity to talk to the teen star.

Sterling Beaumon plays the young Ben Linus on ABC’s hit television series LOST.  “Ben’s the creepy dude,” states Sterling, “but I play the younger, nicer, innocent version of him.”  After starring in an episode in season three, Sterling was called back to return as the young Ben.  “I remember when my mom called me and told me the news that I landed the role again. I was with my friends at the arcade and was so excited!”  Episodes with the young actor began airing in March, and he’s heading toward a likely Emmy nomination for his four-episode arc as young Ben, whose character and episode garnered more media interest than any other storyline all season long.
As a baby, Sterling appeared in many ads, but it wasn’t until he was a little older when he decided he wanted to become an actor.  “I was at a play with my mom,” states Sterling, “and I looked on stage and told her ‘I want to do that!’”  From that moment, Sterling had a modeling, commercial and theatrical agent, which led to many appearances in commercials and television shows.
And the opportunities just kept coming. Last season, Sterling appeared as an “evolved human” on the NBC television series, HEROES, and made co-star and guest appearances on shows such as 7th Heaven, Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, In Case of Emergency and Scrubs.  He also starred in an episode of NBC’s ER, playing a teenage boy who suffered a head injury. To add to the list, Sterling has even done some voiceover work, starring in the Japanese anime series Gunsword.
In the teen world, Sterling is probably most notable for starring in Universal’s Mostly Ghostly, a feature based on the popular book series by R.L. Stine.  Sterling played the leading role as Max Doyle, the boy who befriends the ghosts that only he can see.  Following its theatrical release, it premiered on the Disney Channel and was one of the best-selling children’s market DVD’s last year.  Sterling is currently working on the feature animation film and is one of the starring voices in the big screen Astro Boy, a huge release set to come out in October of this year.
So how does the young successful actor manage work and school?  “I’m in a home school program called K-12.  I do my schoolwork online while I’m acting.”  And for spare time? “I like to play hockey and even film with my friends,” states Sterling.  “I also like to go to the movies, just like any other teen.” Sterling’s future plans are to continue with acting and eventually go to USC film school. His message for his fans, “Keep watching LOST!”
Sterling is currently starring in the great family friendly musical, BIG, brought to you by the West Coast Ensemble at the El Centro Theatre in Hollywood.  He plays the leading role of Josh Baskin’s friend, Billy.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.westcoastensemble.org.
