A JOURNEY OF INSPIRATION, COURAGE AND DETERMINATION – Sarah Darabi
Before she was a published author and a real estate agent, Sarah Darabi was a woman trying to make it out of the Middle East and stand against the oppression that threatened to take over her life at a young age. Today, Sarah has made a name for herself in Santa Clarita, the community that she first called home in 1989. From start to finish, her journey has been one of inspiration, courage, and determination.
Sarah is the oldest of eight, having grown up in an impoverished Muslim family. She grew up amongst the tumultuous sociopolitical climate of the Middle East, starting out in Pakistan and gradually moving to Iran, where aheight of the hostage crisis in Tehran.
“As a child, I was growing up in a very poor and conservative neighborhood where women were second class citizens,” she says.
From a young age, Sarah knew she had a duty to herself to stand up against the agents of oppression that were fighting against her rights both as a woman and an individual. When she moved to Santa Clarita in the late 80s, she saw it as an opportunity to start over, but not forget her roots – rather, she knew she had the change (and the obligation) to use her story to inspire others to stand up for themselves, too.
It was here in Santa Clarita that Sarah decided to pursue a career in real estate, and as of today, she’s been an Independent Real Estate broker for more than three decades. On top of her work as a broker, though, she has an even more impressive accolade: she’s a fully published author, and is proud of her ability to uplift others through the written word.
“I have had such an amazing life full of challenges that I felt compelled to share it with other people,” she shares. “Whenever I talked about the journey of my life, people suggested that I must write a book about it.”
Uncovered is a nonfiction account of Sarah’s life, and the novel follows her struggle for equality and the right to control her own destiny as she navigates her way through Islamic culture and other challenges that threatened to derail the course of her life.
Though the process of writing and publishing wasn’t an easy one (it took over 20 years to get it published), Sarah is more thankful than ever that she has the opportunity to share her story with others who may need that extra push to stand against the forces fighting against them.
Her inspiration mainly came from her own upbringing, but Sarah credits the Santa Clarita community as a large part of it, too.
“Santa Clarita is my hometown, and I love it to the bottom of my heart,” she says. “This community has given me so much love and support that I am grateful for forever – this community made my dreams come true.”
You can find Uncovered on Amazon, where it’s available in both Kindle and paperback formats.
