I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Now that Fall is upon us, the weather is starting to cool down and pumpkin flavored everything is everywhere. Fall time is always one of the best times of the year, I’m sure many of you will agree with me. It’s my favorite time of the year because it’s the start of the holiday season. In honor of the holidays we have some amazing reads for you. First up is the cover. Derek Mears is an actor that has played some of the scariest roles in horror movies. I’ll let you read the story to see what roles he has played. Another holiday fun read is fall decor which will give you some great ideas for decorating your home. Since it’s a new season it’s always hard to know what to plant in your garden, well we have a spotlight on just that. I hope it helps. We also have Fall Fashion by DolledUp Boutique. The ladies that run that store really know what they are doing and all their fall clothes are so cute. Halloween is always so much fun, we have a story inside all about Halloween traditions, who doesn’t love Halloween? Our SCV Reel Talk is all about Horror Haus Film Festival that is happening October 25 to October 27 at The Main in Old Town Newhall. Let’s not forget Thanksgiving. We have some great ideas and tips for your table this year. With that being said, I believe that about covers all the holidays happening in fall.
We have two categories of Ultimate awards this time around, Ultimate Home & Garden and our newest category Ultimate Kid Activities. As you flip though the pages you will see the winners that you all voted on. We have four categories coming up for our next Ultimate awards. We have Ultimate Beauty & Fashion, Bridal, Business and Fitness. These ones are always huge so start voting now. Thank you all so much for your votes.
Speaking of kids, inside you will find some inspiring stories related to kids in our valley. First up is a six year old BMX racer, another is from the American Heart Society, another is a young lady who traveled abroad with school, and the S.T.R.E.A.M’s student ambassador program. Have you heard of the NASA Playload Team? It’s College of the Canyons program that is all about science and finally, a great story about Michael Levin who is a lawyer at the age of 23, such an accomplished young man.
We are proud sponsors of the VIA Bash Black & White Ultimate Party on October 19. Don’t miss out, find out who the VIA Award nominees are when you read the story. Our Dynamic Trio is one of a kind, local guys, Chris Carpenter, Brad North and Joe DeAngelis won an Emmy for post production in the film industry. Mitchell Wu is an extremely talented photographer, his creativity is out of this world. I am excited to do a follow up on him in this issue.
Karen Allyn is the creator of miniature everything, flip to her story to see just how beautfiul her home interiors are, just like the real thing but tiny. Santa Clarita has two new structures, one is the brand new SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida and the other is the all new Patient Tower at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. These two buildings are going to help Santa Clarita so much, read all about them inside. Speaking of helping, the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center has a whole list of events in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October so I hope you will get involved for a great cause.
Looking to get out of the SCV? Well Eve Bushman takes us to the funk zone in Santa Barbara and our Great Escape is all about some fun places in Los Angeles. These places are so close to us and we really hope you will go visit and have a wonderful time.
Don’t feel like leaving and want to just stay home, well how about trying the recipe that Larry McClements has for you. We also have our perfect bite for all the restaurants here in the SCV.
Don’t forget Veteran’s Day is November 11. Daniel Bradley the war veteran is our looking back and we are proud to be able to chat with him about his past, just in time for Veteran’s Day.
For events in the SCV, October and November are the busiest. See our three page calendar of events and join in the fun. Mark your calendar for some of them, I am pretty sure you will find something you like.
I wish you all a beautiful fall Season
Until next time, Alexander Hafizi
