A Message from the Associate Publisher Alexander Hafizi – Dec2020-Jan2021
What a year, can you believe we are going in to 2021? Do you remember starting off this year saying it’s going to be the best year ever. And the first two months were looking good to what could have been a fabulous year. Then we started hearing about COVID-19 all over the world and were forced into quarantine where we had to stay home. Businesses had to close their doors, nonprofits had to cancel their events and everyone stocked up on toilet paper and essentials. From there, who would have thought it was going to still be happening to this day. Eleven months later, we have a new normal where we all wear masks and have to social distance six feet apart. We have all become professionals at zoom meetings. Even the nonprofits have learnt how to have virtual events so that they can continue to serve their missions. And when you see someone while you are out and about or eating on a patio at a restaurant, people seem to get more excited to see you. It’s nice to see that people are trying to stay as positive as possible. Most businesses have had to pivot their businesses to serve our community better.
Our cover story this month, Holly Schroeder, knows a lot about all of the businesses in our valley. We had a chance to chat with her and to get to know her on a more personal level. Read about it in this issue.
Our community lost a beautiful soul, someone that i have known since i was a little boy. Cheri Fleming was an amazing person. A businesswoman, a mentor, a friend, a community leader and so much more. I am so heart broken by her passing. I looked up to her growing up. She was always so sweet and caring to me. My parents wrote about her in this issue. I send my deepest condolences to Don Fleming and the rest of the family. She will be so missed. May she Rest In Peace.
Back in October, STREAM Global Innovations had their Manufacturing Day event which I had the pleasure of being the moderator for, virtually of course. Each business on the panel had the opportunity to communicate with the audience and talk about how they had to change their business due to COVID-19 and continue to thrive. The businesses in question are: 3D High Definition Car Care, Abbott, JPL and The Mask Initiative? You can learn more about them in this issue.
Speaking of local businesses, we are so pleased to announce our Ultimate Ladies in Business award winners in this issue. We had some fun meeting with these ladies to get their story. See the winners in this issue and learn a little about each of them.
Looking for a gift for the holidays? Check out our Fabulous Finds gift guide. Keeping up with the holiday spirit you will find a sneak peek of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s Holiday Home Tour, which will be virtual this year. We have COVID safe New Year ideas since it’s just around the corner. We also feature a million dollar home that is absolutely stunning and I hear it’s for sale too. Feel like getting out of Santa Clarita? Well we have some secrets to find in Los Angeles. See if you have been to any of these cool places. If you feel like staying cozy at home, we are featuring two recipes, one from Larry our regular columnist and one from master mixologist, Rael Petit who brings us a fabulous recipe for cocoa, who doesn’t love cocoa? This issue is packed with great stories and things to do. As always we have our SCV Reel Talk that gives you updated information about the filming industry in Santa Clarita. We also have our Santa Clarita Art Commission column that gives us an update on the art world in Santa Clarita. In fact, in this issue, they talk about the sidewalk poetry event. We also have EDC’s Holly Schroeder giving us an update on the business world. Each issue we have Eve Bushman chatting with us about wine and in this issue she talks to Mystic Hills Winery. We are pleased to bring a magazine to you that you all hopefully enjoy reading, enjoy learning about people in our community and we hope that you will support the advertisers in our magazine.
We wish you a wonderful and safe Holidays Season and a Happy New Year.
– Cheers from Alexander Hafizi & Arnold Bryant
