A Playground for All Abilities!
The City of Santa Clarita boasts 36 beautiful parks, each offering unique amenities and opportunities for residents to be active, social and have fun while enjoying fresh air and sunshine. The most recent addition to the City’s park system is a new inclusive play area at West Creek Park. Residents of all ages and abilities now have a go-to place to enjoy over 15,000 square-feet of play area. The park expansion was created with one thing in mind: accessibility for all.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of interactive features throughout the play area, such as the Bankshot Playcourt, which offers basketball hoops at varying heights with non-conventional angled backboards at 13 different stations. For those who want to enjoy a thrilling ride, there is a Dual-Track Inclusive Zipline, which is wheelchair-accessible. The park also features a Roller Slide, which eliminates static electricity build-up and allows children with cochlear implants to slide without static complications in their hearing devices. Two new innovative play sets – the We-Go-Swing and We-Go-Round – are sure to be winners for children and parents alike. These amenities provide an accessible, no-transfer swing and merry-go-round with ample room for kids and families to play together.
The play area also includes sensory elements that appeal to a child’s sense of sight, hearing and touch. Amenities such as the Sol Spinner, the Cozy Dome, the Communications Board, combined with the play equipment, will allow children to further develop their physical, cognitive, sensory and social skills in an exciting and engaging way. The park also includes a complete wheelchair-accessible fitness area, offering all residents the chance to partake in a healthy lifestyle.
Community is the heart of the City of Santa Clarita and the features throughout the inclusive play area are a direct result of the input from community members. As you look around the park, you will find the inclusive zipline with a high-backed seat, the swing bay with a Friendship Swing, music elements, sensory activities and the enhanced play structure for two to five-year-old children. These additions are the product of a thorough engagement process between community members and the City and the resulting play area is truly a place where visitors can feel at home.
The Inclusive Play Area at West Creek Park opened early this year and has already welcomed hundreds of guests from the community. Residents on the east side of the valley also have an inclusive play area at Canyon Country Park, which opened in early 2020.
