A Weekend Escape to Allegretto Vineyard Resort: Paso Robles’ Tuscan Dream
Just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Santa Clarita lies a little slice of Tuscany in Paso Robles — the 20-acre hideaway of Allegretto Vineyard Resort. Moe and I recently spent a delightful weekend there that felt like stepping into a painting: lush vineyards, olive trees, art-filled corridors, gardens, and impeccable service at every turn.
From the moment we arrived, the resort set the tone for relaxation and romance. Our room welcomed us with a lovely surprise: wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, just waiting on the bedside table. The room itself was beautiful — spacious, comfortable, and with its very own private garden area. Mornings framed by garden views and fresh air became my favorite memory.
We enjoyed a wine tasting in their elegant Allegretto Wine tasting room. The wines were superb — rich, balanced, and deliciously representative of Paso Robles. Our tasting was guided by a charming gentleman, Sam Juarez, whose knowledge of the vineyards, wine‐making process, and the stories behind each pour elevated the experience.
When night fell, we dined at the hotel’s restaurant, Cello Ristorante & Bar, where every dish was as beautiful as it was flavorful. Our waitress, Renee Patterson, was professional, warm, and attentive — she made us feel like the only guests in the room. Every course came with a smile, and she seemed to anticipate what we’d enjoy next.
We were also graciously welcomed by Richard Verruni, the General Manager. Rich has been leading the resort since 2017, and the difference shows — from service to design, his touch of excellence is in every detail. Under his leadership, Allegretto has established itself as one of California Wine Country’s most recognized luxury retreats.
Owner Douglas Ayres deserves mention too. Allegretto is a reflection of his passion for art, history, and the land itself. Every corner of the resort tells a story — from hand-carved Italian marble pieces to centuries-old doors reclaimed from European estates, to sculptures and paintings collected from around the globe. The hallways feel like a gallery, where Roman columns stand beside mosaic tile work and sacred relics. Ayres’ vision was to create not just a resort, but a sanctuary where guests could slow down and connect — with the earth, with history, and with themselves. This thoughtful integration of art, architecture, and spirituality is what sets Allegretto apart from any other wine country retreat.
This year the resort celebrates its 10-year anniversary, and in honor of that milestone, they’re offering a 10% discount on spa services and cabana rentals. A lovely incentive that makes it even more appealing for a spontaneous getaway.
What makes Allegretto truly special, beyond architecture and amenities, is how the staff cares: the warm greetings, thoughtful touches, the feeling that your comfort and pleasure matter deeply. Whether lounging in our private garden, sipping wine under open skies, or enjoying dinner with fine service, the weekend made us feel slow, indulgent, and refreshed.
If you’re looking for a romantic, luxurious escape — just far enough to feel removed, but close enough for an easy drive — Allegretto Vineyard Resort delivers. Rich in beauty, warm hospitality, and unforgettable moments, it’s the perfect backdrop for a weekend to remember.
