Building a Brighter Future: The Mission of L Squared
In a world where the disparity between abundance and destitution is stark, it is crucial for those of us who have the means to extend a helping hand. L Squared is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering destitute and overlooked communities to thrive and become self-sustaining. By doing so, we can prevent human trafficking, starvation, child brides, and other atrocities that arise from systemic poverty and neglect.
The passion that fuels L Squared is deeply personal to its founder, David Stratton. As a child, David remembers listening to radio broadcasts on the way to school, detailing global issues such as starvation. Even at the tender age of six or seven, he couldn’t accept that such suffering was inevitable. He spent countless car rides imagining solutions, concluding that with the right infrastructure and training, these problems could indeed be solved. This childhood vision laid the foundation for L Squared.
L Squared is not just a nonprofit; it’s a family endeavor. David’s wife, Christina, and their children are on the front lines with him, providing food, water, housing, and basic needs solutions. Their work in Kenya, where they have been embraced by the local communities, brings them closer together as a family. They walk alongside the native people, speak basic Kiswahili, and continuously learn from their resilience and wisdom.
Both David and Christina come from families dedicated to helping others. David’s upbringing on the streets of Skid Row in Los Angeles, passing out food with his father, instilled in him the values of love and sacrifice. Christina’s experience with foster care, beginning when she was just five years old, when her parents first opened their home up to foster care. She was exposed to the harsh realities many children face and inspired her lifelong commitment to ensuring everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The journey to establishing L Squared has been challenging yet immensely rewarding. The organization has built a dynamic team both stateside and in Kenya, all of whom share their vision. The support they have received has been overwhelming, but David credits Christina for her unwavering belief in their mission. She has been his rock, pushing him to take the necessary leaps of faith and risks.
L Squared exists because of a shared belief in the power of community and the conviction that we can change lives by showing up and caring deeply. The organization is not just providing resources; it is building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
As L Squared continues to grow and reach more communities, the impact they make is a daily reminder of the power of working together. The organization is proof that with passion, dedication, and a united front, a world where everyone can thrive can be created.
