Building Community and Preserving History!
Santa Clarita is gearing up for a transformative year with several exciting projects that will enhance the City’s recreational, historical and community spaces. From major park additions to trail upgrades and historical site restorations, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to bring their families and friends to new and welcoming spots throughout the community.
One of the most anticipated projects is the addition of William S. Hart Park. Currently the last County of Los Angeles park located in the City, this park is known for its rich history and scenic beauty. Hart Park will officially mark the City’s 40th park in the community, creating a new space for outdoor enjoyment. The park is over 160 acres and includes picnic areas, walking paths, a barnyard as well as the beloved William S. Hart Mansion and Museum. As the City welcomes this new addition to our network, this park will become a must-visit destination to learn about the City’s Western heritage and film history, and enjoy events like the always popular Cowboy Festival and the Hart of the West Pow Wow. We anticipate the official transition to take place this summer.
Speaking of history – the site of the Pioneer Oil Refinery, a landmark that played a pivotal role in California’s early oil industry, is undergoing significant construction. Located in Newhall at the corner of Needham Ranch Parkway and Pioneer Oil, this is the site of one of the oldest surviving oil refineries in the world. This new park will create a place where residents and visitors can learn about the story of Santa Clarita’s industrial past. The park will also offer residents the ability to view the historical structures while walking the trails that connect to the Newhall Pass Open Space. Once completed, this site will serve as a historical and educational resource, offering visitors a glimpse into our past.
Just last month, the City opened the Valencia Community Center, located in Valencia at Summit Park. This 12,000-square-foot facility offers our residents a variety of recreational and educational fun for everyone! It is also the site of the City’s ninth pool, which is also indoors! This location will be perfect for year-round swim lessons, water aerobics classes and more! Beloved City programs like Camp Clarita, and our always popular Contract Classes will call the Valencia Community Center home—making it a hub for our families in Santa Clarita.
Santa Clarita’s trail system, already beloved by hikers, bikers and outdoor enthusiasts, has just received a new addition to the network which spans over 100 miles. Located near Central Park, the Bouquet Canyon Trail is 0.7 miles long and is a shared-use bike and pedestrian trail. This new path provides a low-stress, active transportation route, allowing pedestrians and bicyclists easy and safe access to Central Park.
As these developments and new additions take shape, Santa Clarita residents can look forward to enjoying improved spaces that celebrate the City’s history, natural beauty and active lifestyle. Stay tuned to the City’s social media platforms for updates as these projects progress, and get ready to explore all the exciting changes coming to our community!
