Building Memories One Park at a Time
Santa Clarita has long been known for its scenic open spaces, lush hiking trails and family-friendly parks. Now, the City is ushering in a new era of recreation and community connection with innovative updates across three signature parks: the newly celebrated William S. Hart Park, the soon-to-expand David March Park and the reimagined Old Orchard Park. Together, they tell a story about honoring history, encouraging active lifestyles and creating spaces where memories are made.
This summer, William S. Hart Park officially became the City’s 40th park, a milestone that celebrates both heritage and community. Rooted in Old Town Newhall, Hart Park has been a gathering place for decades, hosting favorite events such as the Cowboy Festival, Hart of the West Pow Wow, Silents Under the Stars and more. With its scenic hiking trails, barnyard animals and iconic herd of bison, the park is equal parts history and adventure.
Originally the home of silent film star, William S. Hart, the property includes the Hart Mansion, Ranch House, Bunk House and Mary Ellen’s Tea Room. Visitors can now enjoy expanded hours, with tours of the Ranch House returning for the first time since 2020. Families can also wander through the Barnyard, encounter alpacas, deer and donkeys, and take in the enduring heritage of this historic landmark.
On the north side of the City, another transformation is underway. David March Park, originally built in 2003 and named in honor of fallen Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy David March, is currently closed for construction.
The expansion will add eight acres and bring a wide range of new features. At the heart of the project is a new baseball field with terraced spectator seating and shade structures, perfect for weekend games. Fitness enthusiasts can look forward to the City’s second exercise staircase, a 116-step climb offering sweeping views from the ridgeline, where the workout will not only be breathtaking, so will the photo opportunities. Families will be able to enjoy a shaded picnic pavilion, a new basketball court with evening lighting and upgraded playgrounds with protective shade covers. Additional exercise equipment and expanded parking are also part of the plan. While the existing park is expected to reopen in early 2026, the full expansion will be completed by spring 2026. This is a major investment in community health and recreation, one that honors Deputy March’s legacy while providing residents with new opportunities for connection and play.
Old Orchard Park is preparing to welcome residents back after a complete transformation. One of Santa Clarita’s original parks, Old Orchard has been reimagined to serve today’s families with an emphasis on play, inclusivity and active recreation. The redesigned playground now features a climbing wall, rope ladder, slide and turf mound for imaginative play, all shaded for year-round comfort. A new ADA-compliant restroom also ensures accessibility for every visitor. For sports lovers, the basketball court has been re-striped to accommodate pickleball, and a new multi-sport court invites games of basketball or futsal. Adding to the park’s renewed character is a striking public art piece, The Dream of the Golden Oak, a glowing glass mosaic sculpture, inspired by Santa Clarita’s history.
From the historic beauty of William S. Hart Park to the innovative expansion at David March Park and the modernized amenities at Old Orchard Park, Santa Clarita is investing in parks that reflect the community’s values: honoring the past, promoting healthy lifestyles and creating community.
