Celebrating 5 Years of Wellness Centers: A Milestone for WiSH Education Foundation
The WiSH Education Foundation is proud to celebrate the 5th anniversary of its Wellness Centers, a critical resource for student support across the William S. Hart Union School District. Since launching the first centers at Canyon and West Ranch High Schools in August 2019, the program has grown to include every campus in the district. WiSH has been instrumental in establishing and funding each Wellness Center, providing vital services that support students, families, and staff.
Supporting Whole-Child Wellness
The Wellness Centers are dedicated to promoting mental, emotional, and social well-being. According to Sarah Gilberts, District Wellness Coordinator, “Our centers provide a safe, supportive space where students can access counseling, de-stress, and build skills to manage their emotional health.” The goal is to destigmatize mental health conversations and offer students the resources they need to thrive academically and personally.
WiSH Education Foundation’s Role
WiSH’s contributions to the Wellness Centers are invaluable. They not only established every center but also continue to fund renewables and consumables, ensuring the centers have the necessary supplies to operate year-round. Additionally, WiSH supports programs such as family paint nights, grief counseling, and music therapy—initiatives that provide students and families with creative ways to address emotional well-being. Bowman High School’s Wellness Pavilion is just one example of WiSH’s commitment. “WiSH’s support has been incredible,” says Bowman’s social worker, Elizabeth Tarantini. “Their partnership has brought in much-needed resources that make a real difference for our students.”
Bridging the Gap in Funding
WiSH’s funding focus is STEAM, with a special emphasis on student wellness. The foundation plays a crucial role in bridging the gap left by state funding for education, allowing the district to provide these essential wellness services. As Gilberts notes, “It’s not just about creating spaces; it’s about fostering a culture of support and care for our students.”
Looking Forward
As the district marks five years of success with the Wellness Centers, the impact is clear. Increased student engagement, more frequent counseling sessions, and stronger community ties all point to the positive effects of this program. “Our students know these centers are for them—a place where they can feel safe and supported,” says Tarantini. With continued support from WiSH, the future looks bright for expanding wellness initiatives across the district.
