Creating Community at Our Parks
Parks are more than just open spaces. They are community hubs where people of all ages come together to play, relax and connect with friends, families and neighbors. Just this past year, the City of Santa Clarita opened its 38th park–Skyline Ranch Park, which spans 11 acres in the Skyline neighborhood. Knowing the importance of parks and how they can create fun, recreational and passive opportunities for residents, the City is proud to announce upgrade projects to two of our most popular City parks.
Located in the heart of Saugus, David March Park is officially under construction for largescale upgrades and enhancements. Expanding its footprint by eight acres, this park will be the home of a new, state-of-the-art baseball field, with shaded spectator seating – perfect for a game of catch or a friendly competition, as well as a basketball court with sport court lighting. Additionally, the existing park will undergo enhancements, including shade structures over the playground, a new exercise equipment area and a shaded picnic pavilion. Visitors can also expect permanent cornhole boards, a horseshoe pit and charcoal grill, making it another wonderful spot to spend time with family and friends. David March Park will also be the location of the City’s second exercise staircase! Located along the ridgeline, residents can run or walk the 166 steps for a breathtaking view of the community below. The construction is anticipated to be complete in 2026.
Across town, work also begins on one of the oldest parks in the community. Originally built in 1968 as a part of the masterplan community of Valencia, Old Orchard Park is about to get completely renovated. The 5.4-acre park, which is located along Lyons Avenue and adjacent to Old Orchard Elementary School, will get a completely new playground with rubberized surfacing, turn play equipment, shade structures, upgrades to the restroom building and more. The park will also have a new multisport court which will offer residents a variety of recreational opportunities, like futsal! For all of our pickleball enthusiasts, the existing basketball court will be updated with a pickleball overlay, giving residents the option to practice their dribbling skills or perfect their serve. Construction on Old Orchard Park is anticipated to be complete in the early summer of 2025.
As a City that also provides world-class amenities, the Santa Clarita City Council recently broke ground on the future site of The Rink Sports Pavilion. Located at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, next to the Gymnasium, this 25,701-square-feet facility will not only offer a roller-skating rink, but also a full-size basketball court, volleyball court and pickleball courts, all located on a 12,00-square-foot multisport surface. Additionally, this location will become the perfect spot to host a birthday party, gala, competitions and more. The Rink Sports Pavilion is expected to open to the community in 2026.
With so many enhancements and upgrades taking place throughout the community, residents can get behind-the-scenes looks at the progress by following the City’s social media accounts, @CityofSantaClarita, on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X.
