DOUGLAS FURNITURE FIFTY YEARS
Family Quality and Community
Fifty years ago, Doug and Pat Green took a leap of faith and opened the doors to Douglas Furniture. With a shared passion for entrepreneurship and a deep commitment to family, they built not just a business but a legacy—one that has stood the test of time in the heart of Santa Clarita.
What started as a modest 1,500-square-foot storefront has since blossomed into a sprawling 30,000-square-foot showroom filled with quality furniture, generations of loyal customers, and countless cherished memories. As they celebrate this incredible milestone, the Green family reflects on their journey, the values that shaped their success, and the exciting future ahead.
A Dream Built on Hard Work and Family
Doug and Pat always knew they wanted to run their own business. Coming from families of entrepreneurs, they understood that success would come with dedication and perseverance. “We knew that if we worked diligently, Douglas Furniture would be a success,” Doug shares.
And work hard they did. In the early days, Pat balanced running the store while taking care of their young children—often with playpens set up behind the counter. “Our family was part of the business from day one,” she recalls with a smile. “It wasn’t always easy, but we made it work. We knew that by having one successful store, we could balance business and family in the best way possible.”
A Growing Business in a Growing City
As Santa Clarita evolved from a small Western-style town into a thriving city, Douglas Furniture grew right along with it. “The community embraced us,” Doug says. “Their support and feedback helped us expand, allowing us to offer a larger selection of high-quality furniture.”
One of the key factors in their success was Doug’s expertise in furniture manufacturing. “I knew how quality furniture should be made, and that knowledge helped us choose the best products for our customers,” he explains. “We weren’t just selling furniture; we were helping people invest in pieces that would last for years. That built a base of loyal customers who kept coming back.”
A Legacy Passed to the Next Generation
As the years passed, the next generation stepped in to carry the legacy forward. Jeff Green, Doug and Pat’s son, grew up in the store, watching his parents pour their hearts into the business. Now, he plays a key role in leading Douglas Furniture into the future.
“Seeing our children and grandchildren take the reins is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Doug says. “We always hoped this business would be something that stayed in the family, and it’s rewarding to see that happening.”
The internet has also played a major role in expanding the store’s reach, bringing customers from as far away as Hawaii, Japan, and Europe. “People find us because of the quality brands we carry,” Jeff explains. “Our reputation speaks for itself, and once people experience our customer service, they stay with us for a lifetime.”
More Than Just a Furniture Store
Beyond selling furniture, Douglas Furniture has been a part of Santa Clarita’s history. Over the years, the store has welcomed some familiar faces—Hollywood legends like Tex and Dallas Williams, Charles Bronson, and Chuck Norris have all been customers.
“It’s been amazing to watch Santa Clarita grow,” Doug reflects. “Fifty years ago, it was a small town with a Western charm, and now it’s a vibrant, thriving community. We’re grateful to have been part of that journey.”
Looking Ahead to the Next 50 Years
As Douglas Furniture looks toward the future, the Greens remain committed to the same core values that have guided them from the beginning: quality, customer service, and family. “A one-time customer is good for business,” Doug says, “but a lifetime customer is great for business.”
For aspiring business owners, the Green family has simple but powerful advice: “Have a vision, set goals, and work hard. If you put your honest effort into your business, the rewards will come.”
With a strong foundation and the next generation at the helm, Douglas Furniture isn’t just celebrating 50 years—it’s gearing up for another 50. Here’s to more years of comfort, style, and lasting connections with the Santa Clarita community and beyond.
