Explore, Imagine and Create at the Santa Clarita Public Library
“Oh, the places you’ll go” at the Library! Much like Dr. Seuss’ whimsical and fun children’s story, the Santa Clarita Public Library takes kids on amazing adventures that offer immersive experiences filled with art, entertainment and education. Quick hands-on arts, crafts, mesmerizing storytimes, catchy original songs and more – can be found at each of Santa Clarita’s three library branches, allowing interest in arts and culture to bloom and thrive.
If music and movement keep your little ones entertained, try out library programs like Little Explorers and Sidewalk Stories. Little Explorers focuses on interactive sensory playtime, art and exploration for children five and under. Sidewalk Stories takes the Library’s popular storytimes to an outdoor format for children to enjoy the fresh air and participate in fun music-filled storytelling, offered in an English and Bilingual format. Getting involved with these entertaining children’s programs allows Santa Clarita’s youth to develop an interest in various art forms while also enhancing socialization skills and cognitive growth. Other Library opportunities sure to pique the interests of kids and tweens include the Children’s Craft Along, Library Eats, Bookworms Kids’ Club and much more. These programs enable kids to explore different artistic activities such as crafting, culinary arts, drawing, reading and dancing.
Kid art activities expand beyond the walls of each Library branch with an extensive online content library of many of the crafts, songs and stories featured in programming. Whether homeschooling or looking for after-school activities, Santa Clarita residents can find educational and engaging content from the Santa Clarita Public Library at YouTube.com/user/SCVPublicLib.
Take the stress out of begging your children to eat their fruits and vegetables and let the Library help with their fun, original “Fruit and Veg Pledge” song and video. Enjoy family arts and craft time with your kids by following along with Library crafting videos for pom-pom garlands, spin art, slime, puppets and countless other projects.
Santa Clarita is fortunate to have an amazing assortment of artistic opportunities and activities to enrich the lives of youth throughout the community. Outside of the library, kids have the chance to visit and interact with public art installations like the IMAG_NE sculpture in front of the Valencia Library and the California Scape sculpture located in Fair Oaks Park. In addition, many of Santa Clarita’s local theatre groups and venues, such as The MAIN, have been able to safely welcome back in-person audiences for theatre productions, so parents and guardians should consider taking their children to a family-friendly performance.
Santa Clarita residents should also make time to visit the Newhall Community Center and the new Canyon Country Community Center. Each of these City facilities features public art as well as children’s programming consisting of arts and educational activities. Boredom should never be an issue with so many activities available for kids through the City’s Libraries, public art pieces, picturesque trails, 35 parks and more. Promote positive mental and physical health for our community’s youth by giving them a change of scenery from home and or school at one of these locations. Let exploration, curiosity and imagination inspire their creativity!
