Getting to Know Your Mayor JASON GIBBS
Being the New Mayor
“Being the 15th person to serve as Mayor of Santa Clarita is one of the most rewarding, exhausting, and humbling honors I have ever experienced. There is never a shortage of community events, emails, and personal conversations to discuss hopes, concerns, and dreams for what Santa Clarita is, and what it may become. As the Mayor, you are always working to prove your constituents are being heard, respected, and appreciated, seven days a week.”
Plans as Mayor
My core philosophy as the Mayor, and as a leader in my Aerospace career, is about being respectful, available, and mindful to the issues and potential solutions we face. While working to maintain calm and respectful city meetings during high-stress interactions at times, I want to see Santa Clarita start laying the ground work for infrastructure and facilities to support our growing community. Seeing the design and building of a roller rink facility, the new transit center, and the mountain bike park are three exciting pieces that will benefit our community. I also want to see the city start focusing on larger regional draw events and facilities, to elevate both tourism and recognition for what a city can become! Having discussions around more regional draw facilities like amphitheaters, professionally sanctioned biking facilities, and top level sports facilities that will attract regional young talent for tournaments and events would play into the long-term health and well being for our community. Santa Clarita is an incredible place, and my role as Mayor this year is to continue working with our incredible staff and my dedicated colleagues on the council to create and bring these visions to fruition, so future generations will remember where Santa Clarita came from, and how that foundation will shape our success for years to come.
Being A Family Man
“It was welcoming the birth of our son Aiden in 2016 that inspired me to step up and start finding ways to both protect and shape the community that my family would be growing up in. My responsibilities to Aiden, my daughter Avery, and my incredible wife, Chandra, necessitated my participation and engagement with the community around them. I needed to ensure that Santa Clarita’s foundation of family, safety and community priorities be protected, while finding ways to bring new activities, policies, and facilities for all our facilities to enjoy. With Chandra and I both working full time in our careers and raising our children together, I believe we bring that next generation of perspective to the City that many of our young families deal with.”
