How Not to Become a Bridezilla
For a bride, the months leading up to her wedding could be some of the most stressful months of her life. This stress could lead a bride into becoming a bridezilla. A bridezilla is a bride who starts to exhibit insane, out-of-control, and outrageous behaviors to orchestrate the perfect wedding day, no matter the cost. However, there are ways to avoid becoming a bridezilla and still being able to have an amazing wedding day.
First, it is important to note that there is no such thing as the ‘perfect’ wedding day. Every wedding day is unique in its own way, and you’re unlikely to remember the perfect parts. The parts you’ll remember will be the quirks or surprises. Allow your wedding to have some wiggle room and do not set such high expectations for this one day in your life.
Often, brides look up to celebrity weddings like Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle but is that attainable for the average bride? Of course not! Kim’s wedding cost $2.8 Million, not including her $2 million wedding ring and luxurious honeymoon. It is more than likely that this cost is out of your price range. If you set expectations to match those fairy-tale weddings, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
Second, be sure to step back and remember the reason why you’re getting married. It is easy to get lost in the haze of wedding planning so try to get back to the basics. Weddings are a symbol of unifying love and families. Everyone who attends the wedding will love it because they love you, so whether or not you get that perfect shade of teal at your wedding will not matter.
You will have tangible memories like the dress and ring, but the part you should remember most is the love and support you felt that day. Though the details of a wedding seem crucial, it is only a small part of the actual experience.
Thirdly, have a healthy outlet to cope if the stress becomes too much. Rather than screaming or throwing a fit, search for other methods like going out for a run or confiding in a trusted friend. This stress does not only affect you, but it affects everyone else around you. Learning how to cope with your stress will not only be helping your mental health, but the sanity of others as well. Journaling your stress is also a great method because its a way to let out your emotions while also creating a time capsule of your emotions for future you to reflect on.
Lastly, for some brides investing in a wedding planner is a very efficient investment to avoid the dooming stress of wedding planning. Not everyone is prepared to plan their whole wedding, so putting it in the hands of a professional saves the bride time, effort, and more importantly the stress. They could also provide tips on budgeting while also allowing you to have some control in the wedding planning process alongside their guidance. Wedding planners are a great investment, and even though they could be pricey it could be worth it for many brides if it means they can avoid being stressed.
Stress is normal for a bride, but it should not take over your life or turn you into a monster.
