It’s Time to Celebrate!
Is there a better feeling than going out with friends or family on a Friday night to try something you’ve never done before? Whether that means ordering an exotic new dish for dinner, seeing a live performance or finding an activity for the whole family, these experiences help create lasting memories that impact our lives. At the City of Santa Clarita’s Celebrate event series, all these and more are wrapped into one magical night, each month at the Canyon Country Community Center.
Celebrate is held on the second Friday of each month through September and starts at 6:00 p.m. This one-of-a-kind event is free to attend and allows residents to explore new cultures and be exposed to the traditions and customs of people from around the world. Each month, Celebrate puts a new culture in the spotlight and showcases the art, music, food and history of that country or region. Not only will you get to learn about new cultures each month, you will also have the chance to connect with Santa Clarita residents who share the same background.
Celebrate is also an arts and crafts lover’s paradise. At each event, attendees will be immersed in an atmosphere that truly delivers authenticity while presenting opportunities to expand your horizons. Learn about cultural dances, listen to music and see how artists from each region express themselves. Celebrate also offers the chance for attendees of all ages to make their own crafts that are fun, stylish and educational.
On Friday, May 12, Celebrate will spotlight the countries of West Africa. This will be followed by a celebration of Peruvian culture on June 19 and an exploration of Spanish traditions on July 14. On August 11, the event will showcase the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians – the native people of northern Los Angeles County who inhabited the original villages in the Simi, San Fernando, Antelope and Santa Clarita Valleys. City staff is partnering with the Tribe on a fascinating event that will educate the public on the history, way of life and distinct background of the Tataviam. The last Celebrate event of the year will be held on Friday, September 8 and will feature the intricate and diverse cultures found in China.
You won’t want to miss out on these unique events that celebrate not just faraway lands, but also the diversity we cherish right here in Santa Clarita. Bring your family and meet your friends for a night of live entertainment, great food, art and so much more.
Are you ready to Celebrate the people that make Santa Clarita a wonderful place to live? If so, it’s time to take a trip around the world and head to the Canyon Country Community Center each month!
