Jumpstart Your Future with Connecting to Success Preparing Tomorrow’s Workforce today Powered by VIA

Picture this: It’s March 2002, and nearly 100 business leaders are gathering at the Valley Industry Association’s (VIA) bi-annual CEO Forum. The buzz? How to equip new and existing employees with the skills they need to shine. The consensus? Basic business conduct is the foundation for success!
These industry titans highlighted a critical need: entry-level employees must master essential skills like interviewing, punctuality, clear communication, teamwork, financial literacy, and customer service. They also emphasized the importance of problem-solving, decision-making, organizational skills, and strategic thinking.
To address this pressing need, the VIA Education Committee sprang into action. They envisioned a training program tailored for high school students. And thus, “Connecting to Success” was born! As of this year VIA has put over 40,000 through the program.
In November 2003, the first “Connecting to Success” pilot program kicked off at Valencia High School, engaging several hundred juniors. Imagine a day filled with interactive seminars, led by local business pros, offering students insider tips and tricks to navigate the professional world. The program provided invaluable insights that students wouldn’t typically have access to, straight from their potential future employers.
Fast forward to today, “Connecting to Success” has exploded in popularity! Now an annual event, it reaches over 3,500 students from eight high schools in the Hart District. Mentors and internship opportunities have been added, giving students a real-world edge before they even step into the workforce.
But we’re not stopping there! The ultimate dream is for every high school student in the Santa Clarita Valley—and beyond—to experience the magic of “Connecting to Success.” We’re extending invitations to all charter schools eager to join the journey.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support from the local community and grants secured by the Valley Industry Association. Through the continuing, strong support of Congressman Mike Garcia, the 2023 and 2024 programs are also funded (in part) through a Grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The VIA Education Foundation, a not-for-profit organization (Tax ID No. 45-5239130), plays a crucial role in aligning us with educational grant opportunities. Together, the VIA and its Foundation tirelessly fundraise through grants, special events, and generous contributions from businesses and individuals.
