Keeping the Pressure with The Lawrence Sisters

In California, we are subject to all kinds of catastrophic emergencies from earthquakes to fires. We must stay alert and be prepared for whatever our surroundings throw at us. With the safety and betterment of our community in mind, sisters Cambria and Maci Lawrence created Keep the Pressure, a non-profit organization that provides the tools necessary to stop life-threatening bleeding with Bleed Kits. Both girls are students of the William S. Hart Union High School District and they have supplied over 1,200 bleed kits to the schools within their district. The Lawrence sisters have made sure every public junior high and high school classroom in Santa Clarita is equipped with a bleed kit. “This is a difficult but necessary subject that we must face. With proper education and equipment our community can feel safer about sending their kids to school,” commented Maci.
In response to the growing fear that plagues most parents, Cambria and Maci began this non-profit organization, and with the help of the community they raised more than $100,000 to launch their vision. “Our idea was to make sure these kits can be available to anyone in any classroom and anyone can use them,” Cambria said. The girls have made it a point to offer the training needed to go along with each kit. “We have created an excellent video for all to view on our website and we also offer hands-on training to any school who wants it.” Keep the Pressure is thankful to locally partner with the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Trauma Center. Trauma nurses accompany the girls to every training session. Each kit comes with 2-tourniquets, 1-Quikclot gauze (a gauze impregnated with a hemostatic agent that clots when in contact with blood), 1-compression bandage, 1- pair of trauma shears, 1-pair of gloves, and 1-survival blanket.
Recently, their bleed kits were used in the tragic event on November 14. “We hoped our kits would never have to be used, but we are thankful they were there to help,” said Maci. With the assistance of their parents, Dr. Bud Lawrence, an emergency room physician and Dr. Regan Lawrence a dentist, they are continuing to get more kits in more schools in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond. “We are so proud of our girls and the work they are accomplishing with this campaign,” commented Dr. Bud Lawrence.
Keep the Pressure is an ongoing operation and now offers the bleed kits available for purchase on their website. “We sell these kits at our cost, we are not looking to make any money from this,” stated Cambria. They are also in need of community support through monetary donations of which 100 percent of the proceeds go to supplying the kits to schools.
