LEAP Children’s Museum: Inspiring Young Minds Through Play and Discovery
The LEAP Children’s Museum is poised to become an extraordinary addition to Santa Clarita, providing a vibrant space where children can explore, learn, and play through hands-on exhibits and interactive experiences. With a vision rooted in fostering curiosity and a love for learning, LEAP is dedicated to offering a dynamic environment that introduces young minds to the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), as well as career exploration and local history.
The concept for LEAP was born from a passion for education and community engagement. Recognizing a gap in accessible, hands-on learning opportunities for children in Santa Clarita, the museum’s founder, drawing from a background in education, counseling, and leadership, sought to create a space where kids could explore different career paths while developing a deeper understanding of the world around them. Support from Junior Chamber International (JCI) of Santa Clarita has played a vital role in bringing this vision to life, providing valuable experience in organizing large-scale events and fostering community partnerships.
Designed for children aged 2 to 12, the museum will cater to early learners while also offering specialized workshops for older kids. With exhibits tailored to developmental needs—particularly those of the average six-year-old visitor—LEAP will feature engaging displays such as a water play area replicating Santa Clarita’s historic aqueduct, interactive physics exhibits, and an outdoor garden showcasing native plants and animal tracks.
Currently, LEAP is gaining momentum through pop-up events and community engagement initiatives. Without a permanent location yet, these events provide families with a preview of what the museum will offer while building support for securing a dedicated space. A highly successful fundraiser hosted by JCI Santa Clarita on April 1 demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for the project, with local businesses, organizations, and sponsors rallying behind the initiative. Another exciting pop-up event is set to take place at Valencia Town Center from June 7 to July 6 in collaboration with iLEAD Schools, further solidifying LEAP’s presence in the community.
The road to opening a permanent location is well underway. As the team works to secure a site, they continue to foster partnerships with schools, businesses, and community leaders. Organizations like the Rotary Club of Santa Clarita, Valley Industry Association, and WeWil have played a key role in supporting LEAP, while businesses such as UCLA Health, City Councilman Jason Gibbs and Supervisor Barger have provided crucial funding and resources. Additionally, local media outlets, including Santa Clarita Magazine, élite Magazine, The Signal, SCVTV, KHTS, and What’s Up SCV, have helped spread the word about this exciting project.
The museum’s long-term goal is to establish a 20,000-square-foot facility dedicated to STEAM education, career exploration, and Santa Clarita’s rich history. However, LEAP may begin with a smaller 10,000-square-foot space before expanding into a permanent home. Beyond being a place for fun and discovery, the museum aims to boost the local economy by attracting visitors, creating jobs, and enhancing educational opportunities for families in the region.
For those looking to support LEAP, there are numerous ways to get involved. Volunteers are essential in bringing this vision to life, whether by assisting at pop-up events or eventually helping with museum operations. Businesses and individuals can contribute through donations, sponsorships, or in-kind support, helping to ensure LEAP becomes a lasting resource for Santa Clarita families.
The excitement surrounding LEAP Children’s Museum is growing, and with continued community support, this dream will soon become a reality. By providing a space where children can learn, explore, and imagine, LEAP will not only enrich young minds but also strengthen the Santa Clarita community as a whole.
