Logix Celebrates 85 Years of Smarter Banking
This year, Logix Federal Credit Union is celebrating its 85th anniversary. By finding innovative ways to provide superior service, the credit union has grown from its humble beginnings to an institution serving nearly 233,000 members with more than $9 billion in assets.
The credit union’s beginnings go back to 1928, when Allan Lockheed began making wooden airplanes in two small buildings in Burbank. Soon, the Lockheed Aircraft Company was formed with only 80 employees and one bumpy, 2,000-foot dirt runway.
In the decade that followed, the economy crashed, threatening the company’s existence. With smart minds at its helm, Lockheed was able to weather the storm by keeping the plant open on an on-call basis, and paid employees in cash envelopes by the hour. In 1937, this enterprising spirit would be rekindled when 12 employees took their earnings and used them to create what would become the Lockheed Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union.
During World War II, Lockheed was among the nation’s top corporations ranked by value of wartime production contracts. While its employees worked hard, the credit union worked harder to make sure their money was being protected. That financial know-how has been tested again and again through both recessions and times of prosperity.
After so many years in business, the credit union has persevered through a number of world events: From wars overseas to tensions at home – and more than one name change.
On July 9, 2012, the credit union became Logix Federal Credit Union. Many longtime members were fearful of the organization forgetting its place in history and losing that spirit upon which it was founded. Ten years since then, and 85 years after its foundation, Logix is stronger than ever, and dedicated to making its members’ financial health its priority. Management also continues to support it employees and their careers, by encouraging them to take classes and attend learning opportunities.
Logix employees look forward to enhancing their skills with a bi-annual company-wide event, Training Day. This year, the event was hosted on October 10 at the Logix headquarters in Valencia with more than 500 staff members in attendance. Team-building competitions, learning sessions and community giving were a part of the day’s activities.
“Training Day provides a day of learning, growth, and an opportunity to strengthen the relationships within our entire organizational team,” Vice President of Learning and Resources Sandra Trudeau said. “It supports all our team members in the appreciation of each other as individuals to better serve each other, our members, and the community. This year’s event was filled with additional excitement and energy as we connected in person at our new home in Valencia.”
