Meet Matt Onstad
Being a native of the Santa Clarita Valley has been the foundation of success for Matt Onstad, branch manager at Logix Federal Credit Union’s Golden Valley location.
Onstad grew up in Valencia, went to school and met all his friends here. Now, he owns a home and works here in Santa Clarita and recognizes how being a home-grown part of the community has shaped his life.
“Living in Santa Clarita means living in an environment that fosters the idea of ‘family first,’” Onstad said. “This community has a sense of valuing its people above all else.”
With more than 15 years of experience in the banking industry, Onstad recalls what drew him to working in the financial sector. “I went into banking with a strong belief there was a responsibility of the financial institution to steward its clients and assure they’re well taken care of,” he said.
It makes sense, then, that Onstad has spent the last 10 years at Logix, as the organization’s values align so well with his own.
“Everyone at Logix – from the leadership to our branch employees – believes in putting our members first and helping them thrive. This top-down philosophy has the entire organization facing the same direction, which makes working with similarly dedicated co-workers a joy each and every day,” Onstad said.
His colleagues agree that Onstad’s attention to members is what makes him a perfect representative of the credit union’s core values.
“Matt embodies the spirit of Logix with his desire to see our members succeed each day,” said Branch Service Manager Sylvia Galaviz, who has worked with Onstad at the Golden Valley branch for two years. “Every member who Matt assists is given his undivided attention, and becomes his biggest concern. He wants to make sure they leave happy. He’s a great role model for many of our younger financial service officers who have just started their career with the credit union.”
Onstad recalls an experience assisting a family many years ago.
“They were a young couple at the time and wanted to eventually buy a home, but had not established the credit to do so. I spent more than a year preparing them to build strong credit while putting them on a path to save monthly for their down payment and closing costs for the new home,” he said. “We met often and discussed how the home buying process would work. Within about 18 months they were ready. I connected them with a Realtor and they soon got into their home. About a year later, their family was growing. We met again and discussed college saving options. Once the baby arrived, Logix had made sure the family and their financial future had a path to success.”
And, when Onstad steps away from the branch, he’s picking up some ice time at The Cube. “I’ve been playing hockey my whole life. Having a sense of team has helped me in my professional life. I also enjoy getting some exercise; we’re fortunate to have this facility in town. I look forward to seeing the Logix-branded Zamboni there. I take pride in my company and the community. It’s a great place to be.”
