Can you believe summer is just about over. Kids are back in school, And the season is about to change. I hope you have had an amazing summer. This issue has a lot of great stories, about some truly amazing people. Our cover for example features Howard Hewett an American singer. He was the lead vocalist of the group Shalamar. Such a groovy story. Speaking of groovy we got to meet a band called the Twisted Gypsy. They are a Fleetwood Mac Cover Band that are absolutely amazing. I got the pleasure of seeing them play live at Senses on Main. They also played at Concerts in the Park. We also featured another band. PCL is a Punk/Pop band. The two guys that started the band played baseball together as kids. What a fun story.
This issue we have two different categories for our Ultimate Awards. These awards are chosen by you, our readers. You have the ability to help a small business in our valley win an award. How cool is that. All you have to do, is go to our website at http://www.scvelitemagazine.com to vote. Right now you can vote on our final awards of the year our Ultimate Dining Awards. In this issue we feature the winners of our Ultimate Kid Activities awards and our Ultimate Home & Garden awards. It’s always so fun seeing who you all choose. Thank you for voting each time. The amount of votes we get for these awards always amazes me, I absolutely love it. So, again, thank you and a huge congratulations to all the winners.
Another thing I love is being able to enlighten you about local nonprofits in our town. In this issue we have Yes I Can Unity Through Music and Education. Yes I Can provides customized training and employment services to help creative people with disabilities to acquire necessary skills to assist them in securing careers within the entertainment industry. For more about this, read the story.
We have also featured JCI Santa Clarita. I am the president of our local chapter here in town, and it is an honor to serve in this role. JCI Santa Clarita is a leadership organization that builds community leaders for a better tomorrow by providing professional training opportunities, volunteer opportunities and social skill training to empower young people to create a positive change. This year our chapter created a 501c(3) to help our chapter with the ability to fundraise, this will open so many doors for the chapter in the future. Learn more about it in the article.
We love Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Let’s give them a shout out for being nationally recognized for their commitment to providing high quality stroke care to our community.
In each issue of our magazine we introduce you to a team member at Logix Federal Credit Union, in this issue we feature Joe Mandujano from the financial department, Joe works at the Valencia Promenade Branch, next time you are in the area pop in and say you read about him in élite Magazine. Let’s do a little trivia, how many Logix Federal Credit Union banks are there in Santa Clarita? If you think you know the correct answer email me at alex@scvelitemagazine.com. The first person with the correct answer will win a gift card to a local restaurant.
Are you looking for a new home? The home we feature in this issue is absolutely stunning. If you don’t believe me, see it for yourself. And, if this home isn’t available I’m sure Dippy Chinna, the realtor who is selling the home can help you find the house of your dreams.
Let’s talk a little about business. Holly Schroeder always keeps us up to date on what’s happening. Don’t miss that article.
One of our spotlights was written by a new writer Samantha Bushman. The last name may look familiar, well it is our wine columnist Eve Bushman’s daughter, Samantha wrote a great story about the Skating Mamas of SCV. Such a rocking story. Eve Bushman takes us all to Italy as she got to experience some of the coolest and best wines out there. Always look forward to seeing what Eve is up to.
Another feature written by Samantha is about a guy named Owen Kinney who biked the Colorado Bike Trail. It’s over 550 miles of trailing. Just fascinating. His journey blows me away.
I know you don’t want to hear this, but the holidays will be here before you know it. Our Fabulous Finds shopping guide is a great place to start.
Who is into Art? Our art story will take you on a journey through all the art in the SCV.
Our SCV Reel Talk is a cool article talking about a show that needed a plane to make an emergency landing on one of our golf courses for the scene. It’s always so fun seeing the directional signs for casts and crew all over town. Do you notice them? They usually have bright yellow signs guiding the crew and cast to where they need to be for the scenes. Always a cool sight.
How hungry are you? Larry McClements always has an amazing recipe for us and, in this issue it’s a honey nut squash casserole getting us ready for the fall. If that doesn’t make you hungry, I’m sure our perfect bite dining guide will. It has some of the local favorite restaurants that you need to try.
Our looking back is always a story that looks back on someone’s life and this one is truly special. A love story of a local couple that have been married for 80 years. What an inspirational story.
As you read through the magazine, we hope you really enjoy the great stories. There is something for everyone in your family or your friends to read. We hope our stories motivate you to do something wonderful in your lifetime. Thank you for reading and supporting us. We hope you will support the advertisers you see in the magazine, they are the ones that make this possible.
Until next time, Alexander Hafizi
