Mitzi Like-Moberg & Randy Moberg – Silver Spur Recipients 2023
Husband and wife Randy Moberg and Mitzi Like-Moberg were honored to receive the prestigious Silver Spur Award from the College of the Canyons on March 11, 2023. The 31st annual celebration took place at the scenic Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach and recognized the couple’s dedication and commitment to the College of the Canyons. They have been residents of the Santa Clarita Valley for over two decades and in that time have made large contributions to several philanthropic causes in our local community, including supporting and fundraising for the College of the Canyons.
“Over the years, Randy and Mitzi have proven to be steadfast and enthusiastic supporters of College of the Canyons and our mission to make higher education accessible to all,” quotes College of the Canyons Chancellor, Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook. “Their dedication and generous spirit distinguishes them as worthy recipients of the Silver Spur award. We are grateful for their generous support and we are proud to recognize their passion and efforts in service to our students.”
Mitzi and Randy are both executive officers at the Valencia-based LBW Insurance and Financial Services, a private company providing insurance and financial services which traces back to 1922. When the company relocated from Van Nuys to the Santa Clarita Valley in 2004, the firm began providing contributions to local non-profit organizations as well as hosting yearly seminars for them. The business has won countless awards and accolades over the years, including being named among the ‘100 Best Places to Work’ by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2022.
Mitzi currently serves on the boards of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation and the Henry Mayo Newhall Health Foundation. Both Randy and Mitzi have been nominated for Santa Clarita’s Man/Woman of the Year awards several times, including in 2023. Randy, was among the winners of the 2020 2nd Annual ‘Ultimate Gentlemen in Business’ awards, and won the ‘Ultimate Male Medium Business Executive’ for his work at LBW Insurance and Financial Services. He has been a longtime supporter of the Patrons of the Arts program through College of the Canyons and currently sits on COC’s Foundation board of directors. He previously sat on the Foundation’s Executive committee, Finance committee, and Planned Giving committee.
The couple have co-chaired countless Silver Spur committees in the past and have supported the Chancellors’ Circle programs at the College of the Canyons for over fifteen years. With a lifelong support of the college and a deep affinity for fundraising and donating, the couple is grateful to call the Santa Clarita Valley home. Our local community has greatly benefitted from the generosity shown by Randy and Mitzi, and we look forward to many more years ahead. For the decades of community service and philanthropic efforts on behalf of Randy Moberg and Mitzi Like-Moberg, the Silver Spur award recognizes all they have accomplished.
