New Patient Town at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital – New Heights in Healthcare
After much anticipation, the new patient tower at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital will open soon to serve the community…
In 1975, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital opened its doors to the community, offering 99 beds, an ICU Unit, and an Emergency Department. Since then, the hospital has grown to serve Santa Clarita’s ever-changing community.
In October of 2019, a new era in healthcare will begin when Henry Mayo opens its new patient tower. The new tower increases the hospital’s capacity to 357 beds, a significant increase from its previous capacity of 238 beds.
One of the main features of the new patient tower is the Center for Women and Newborns. Located on the tower’s second floor, this new unit provides 22 antepartum/postpartum beds and seven labor and delivery beds.
Throughout the tower, all patients will now enjoy private rooms, with private bathrooms and ample space for themselves, family, and staff.
Other notable features in the new tower include a permanent rooftop helipad with direct access to the Emergency Department, the expanded Parker Laboratory to facilitate faster results for urgent diagnoses, and an expanded Materials Management Department to ensure improved delivery time of medical supplies.
Also in the new tower are a spacious nutritional services department and cafeteria with a hotel-quality kitchen, a central atrium dining garden that admits light to new indoor dining and server areas, and a physicians’ dining area.
Overlooking the cafeteria area is a three-story mural painted by local artist/historian Frank Rock, designed to be both calming and healing. Rock, who was selected to paint the design by Henry Mayo’s design team, completed the mural in March after nearly two full weeks of work. Rock estimates this mural is the biggest and tallest artwork piece he had ever painted. The mural was designed by Kevin Barry Fine Art.
Henry Mayo staff and volunteers will move patients into the new tower on October 27. Grand opening celebratory events will take place during the second week in October, with a public open house event to be held on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. RSVPs for the open house are requested and can be submitted online at www.henrymayo.com/openhouse, or over the phone by calling 661-200-1310.
“We look forward to serving patients in our beautiful new tower,” said Roger E. Seaver, Henry Mayo’s president and chief executive officer. “With its private rooms and other features, the tower will allow us to offer a new level of care for the Santa Clarita Valley.”
