New Year’s Resolutions
Welcome to 2024! As we settle into the new year, many of you have aligned the changing of the calendar with the opportunity to shift your day to day priorities. Maybe you want to be more active, learn how to cook healthy dishes, book that bucket list vacation or pick up a new hobby. We are fortunate that all of these opportunities are easily accessible in our City.
With more than 100 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space, there are plenty of places to walk, ride, hike or run. You can also test your endurance and cardiovascular health by going for a ride at the bike park, taking on the 172-step exercise staircase at Central Park or get competitive in one of the City’s many sports leagues. The benefits of these activities extend beyond just physical well-being. Engaging in regular exercise is a powerful tool for mental health, offering stress relief, mood enhancement and a sense of overall well-being. The serene surroundings of our trails and open spaces provide a perfect environment for mindfulness and reflection, helping to alleviate the hustle of daily life.
In addition to getting active, eating healthy also tops New Year’s resolution lists. You can shop for farm-fresh food at one of the local farmers markets, and then learn how to prepare new dishes in a cooking class. The City’s Seasons magazine outlines a variety of classes including Bulk Meal Prep, Spice Blending and Cake Decorating. For more information please visit SantaClarita.gov/Seasons.
Maybe this is the year you resolve to check some items off your bucket list – like travelling the world. Your first stop on your international journey should be the Santa Clarita Public Library. Passport services are offered by appointment only. To make an appointment, visit SantaClaritaLibrary.com/Passport-Services. The website also features information, including what to bring to your appointment, hours of operation and services the facility offers, which include:
• First-time passports
• Passport renewals for passports issued
before the applicant was 16 years of age
• Renewals for expired passports issued
more than 15 years ago
• Replacements for lost, stolen or damaged
passports
• Passport photos
Another New Year’s resolution is to meet new people and expand your social network. There is no better way to do it than by taking part in one of the City’s many programs or going to a community event. The Santa Clarita Public Library and Community Centers offer a wide range of programs from Bingo and line dancing, to book clubs and craft workshops. Make sure to mark your 2024 calendar with the must-attend City events, such as the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, Concerts in the Park, SENSES block parties and the Celebrate event series. Make sure to follow the City on social media for more on these opportunities.
As you embrace the new year with an adventurous spirit, remember that each new activity is not just a challenge, but a chance to sprinkle a little extra joy and excitement into your life – here’s to discovering new passions and creating unforgettable memories in the year ahead!
