One Story One City
Get ready to embark on a literary journey that will transport you to 1960s Italy for a tale of mystery, intrigue, love and haunting family secrets. You will not be able to put down this year’s book selection for the Santa Clarita Public Library’s One Story One City. The historical fiction novel ‘The Woman in the Castello’ by Kelsey James is the chosen book for our community to read and experience together, creating a shared journey through its pages and throughout the calendar full of events, set for this March.
The One Story One City program strives to bring the community together and foster connections through literature. Think of it as a local book club – that everyone in the City is invited to take part in. Then throw in a month full of events and activities – including spirited discussions, immersive experiences inspired by the book, crafts and other themed programs. Participants will even have the opportunity to find out the inspiration for the story, from the author herself, in a virtual Q and A session.
There is so much to discover as you flip the pages of this novel. Set in Rome in 1965, it focuses on aspiring actress Silvia Whitford who is looking to get her big break while also experiencing la dolce vita (the sweet life) in Italy. A series of events reconnects her with Aunt Gabriella Conti, a once-famous actress who radiates charisma throughout the eerie Italian castle she calls home. As a new horror movie begins filming at the castle, the terror seeps into reality, triggering a chain of events that illuminate dark secrets from the past – and a growing menace in the present.
Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down until the last page is turned. Make sure you check out a copy of ‘The Woman in the Castello’ at any of the Santa Clarita Public Library branches, available in print, eBook and eAudio. Read and talk about the book and engage with other readers on social media using #OSOC2024. Then visit SantaClaritaLibrary.com to see the full schedule of events, discussions and programs all inspired by this story.
