PCL – Jake Spurlin and Kyle McGraw

In today’s pop-musical era where technology is the showrunner, 808 beats are a popular staple, and a single computer can produce an entire orchestra of instruments, the Pop-Punk band ‘PCL’ are organically creating in a league of their own.
Longtime friends, band mates, and West Ranch High School alumni Jake Spurlin and Kyle McGraw first built their bond on Azsay they have become well-versed in ‘playing together’ ever since. The two have also made many musician friends over the year, or as they playfully call them “hired guns,” who support with production whenever needed, though they are the two official members: “friends who want to create…with the end goal that it’ll pay off.”
The acronym ‘PCL’ stems its inspiration from Minor League Baseball Team  “Pacific Coast League,” but to avoid legal conflict and for their own personal comedy, its meaning is always up for a funny interpretation. When people ask what PCL means, the band’s answer almost always “depends on [a person’s] sense of humor.”
PCL’s most recent live performance, and band member Jake’s favorite performance to date, happened right at home — The Canyon at Westfield Valencia Town Center in 2019, where he was once an employee. Both bandmates love touring out-of-state, as well, and are excited to release new music and hit the road soon.
As music trends have shifted throughout the years, a trope that “Pop Punk is dead” has spread like wildfire across the internet— and to that, Kyle says, “I don’t think it ever died, it just hasn’t been properly appreciated.” PCL calls on the influences of early 2000’s Pop Punk bands, mixed with their own present-day party attitudes, to create music that is nostalgic just as much as it is brand new.
In their free time, the members of PCL are as adventurous as their music makes you feel. Jake enjoys spending his time away from the stage serving his community, and Kyle loves outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, and going to the beach.
The band has an album coming out in the near future, and are currently rallying in votes for a competition called Opening Act, where the winning performers receive a chance to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. Voting is open through September, and they’re counting on their beloved hometown community members for some help! If you look to compare the sounds of PCL to any “Pop” music of today, similarities may fall short… thus, for an accurate vibe, you’ll need to ‘fall in reverse.’ Reminisce on the classic sounds of early 2000’s Pop-Punk, be it the band Falling in Reverse, State Champs, A Day to Remember, or any of your favorite Pop Punk headliners. All of a sudden you are on Ventura Beach during Warped Tour of summer 2007, and your eyes and ears are wide open. You are right at home.
