SANTA CLARITA’S OLYMPIANS Abbey Weitzel
Born and raised in Santa Clarita, Abbey Wetizel was making a splash long before she stepped into the Olympic swimming pools. Her career as a swim athlete started back at College of the Canyons as a member of the Canyons Aquatic Club, and the rest is history. This year, Abbey took home a silver medal in the 4×100 meter medley relay alongside a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay, making her a well decorated Olympic athlete at just 24 years old. As of now, Abbey holds the American record for the 50-yard freestyle, though her achievments extend even farther back than her time in the Olympics. Back in 2016, she took home a gold medal in the 4×100 meter medley relay, and with so much of her career to look forward to, there’s no doubt Abbey will continue to make SCV proud.
