SANTA CLARITA’S OLYMPIANS David Smith
Before he was an Olympic athlete, he was something equally as important to Santa Clarita – a Saugus Centurion. At 6 feet 8 inches tall, David has been a part of the volleyball scene for several years, with his earliest team being the UC Irvine volleyball team in the early 2000s. This year, David participated in the Olympics alongside the U.S.A. men’s volleyball team, which marks his third run as an Olympic participant. Though he didn’t take home the gold at this year’s Olympics, David still smashed it on the court – literally. As a three time Olympian and one-time Olympic medalist (so far..), his dedication to the game and his team are impossible to ignore. In his future are several more opportunities to add onto his Olympic accolades, and he plans to do so alongside the support of his parents and two siblings.
