Service Before Self: Elisha Kriis
When she was in fourth grade, Elisha Kriis was part of a school play that ended up airing on regional television, which according to Elisha was both a humbling and exciting experience, because at the time she was quite a shy student. However, the success of the play, is what got her interested in the entertainment industry in the first place, and from that moment on, she knew she was destined for things far greater than a role in an elementary school play.
Elisha grew up loving the idea of exploring the world and traveling to new places. That’s why she pursued her role as a travel show host, which airs on Travelxp – India’s first international travel network – where she really started to develop her love for the screen and everything in between.
“My dream has always been to express myself creatively through entertainment,” she says. “Storytelling is a great way to both entertain and inspire people, and that’s why I decided to transition from hosting to films.”
Following her time with Travelxp, Elisha moved on to bigger and bolder projects, both in the realm of TV and films. It’s her goal to transform her burning curiosity for exploration into something that her audiences can experience alongside her.
Elisha has accumulated an impressive list of professional accolades, one of which being her short film’s consideration for the 2023 Oscars. Her film explored the lives of India’s tribal sex workers and their fight for human rights, and just the fact that it was considered for the Oscars inspires her to keep pushing such social narratives forward.
“It doesn’t matter what language or country a project is based in,” she says. “I strive to create something truly meaningful or entertaining, and that’s what counts for me.”
She’s worked on Hollywood films English travel shows, Hindi, Telugu and Gujarati productions, most of which have been distributed worldwide and translated into multiple languages.
Off-camera, Elisha utilizes her B.A. in Business Administration to work “behind the scenes” on things like contract roles with many big-name brands and tech companies.
She’s also launched a sports talent agency in India to promote athletes on an international level, which she hopes will bolster them to reach greater heights in their chosen sport.
In terms of advice, she’s got a lot to share, and hopes that budding entrepreneurs, actors, and hosts learn from her experience.
“Don’t be in it for the fame or money,” Elisha says. “Instead, think about how your work can move, educate, and inspire your viewership – put service before self.”
Elisha’s future is bright, and she has a lot lined up to continue down the path of self-discovery and love for what she does.
