Shawna Mann: Leading the Charge for Student Success at the COC Foundation
The College of the Canyons Foundation has a new leader at the helm. Shawna Mann, recently appointed as Executive Director, brings a wealth of experience, a deep passion for student success, and a clear vision for the future. Her journey to this role has been one of dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to making a tangible impact in the community.
In her new position, Shawna collaborates closely with College of the Canyons Superintendent/President, the Foundation Board of Directors, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance the Foundation’s mission. She is dedicated to ensuring the organization operates with the highest level of integrity in raising funds that directly benefit COC students and programs.
Shawna’s enthusiasm for this role is fueled by her firsthand experiences witnessing how scholarships and emergency grants change students’ lives. After serving in multiple roles within the Foundation since 2021, including Director of Operations and Marketing Communications and later Chief Operations Officer, she is now poised to take the department to new heights.
Before joining COC, Shawna spent over 20 years in Disability Services, including working with adults with disabilities to secure employment and later at North Los Angeles County Regional Center. However, the challenges of the pandemic led her to reassess her career path, and she found herself drawn to the opportunities at College of the Canyons. Her leadership skills and ability to navigate change have been instrumental in her rise within the organization.
Looking ahead, Shawna is eager to strengthen the Foundation’s initiatives by rallying the Board of Directors around impactful projects such as the Basic Needs Center, scholarships, and the Silver Spur Gala. Her long-term goal is ambitious but clear: growing the endowment to a level where the Foundation can be fully self-sustaining. She is also committed to professional and personal growth, balancing leadership development with new challenges—like learning to play the piano.
What sets the COC Foundation apart, in Shawna’s eyes, is the people. The passion and dedication of the staff, faculty, and Board members create a culture of excellence that fuels student success. She encourages the Santa Clarita community to engage with the college, explore its opportunities, and see firsthand the transformative work being done.
Under Shawna’s leadership, the College of the Canyons Foundation is poised for a bright future, continuing its mission to remove barriers to education and create opportunities for all students to thrive.
