Stay Active in the Outdoors!
Nestled between the San Gabriel and Santa Susana Mountains, the City of Santa Clarita offers an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. With its beautiful hiking trails, 37 parks and very own bike park, Santa Clarita provides an ideal setting for various outdoor activities, catering to people of all ages and interests. From disc golf to hiking, pickleball to the Trek Bike Park of Santa Clarita, our City has something for anyone seeking to connect with nature and enjoy an active lifestyle.
Just last month, the City opened a brand-new 18-hole disc golf course at scenic Central Park. Players can enjoy a combination of open fields and wooded areas, making it an enjoyable experience for beginners or seasoned disc golfers. With new elevated tee pads and basket locations, players can easily navigate the course while appreciating the natural beauty of the surroundings. Discs are available in the Adult Sports Office for anyone wanting to try something new or to have a friendly competition.
For nature enthusiasts and avid hikers, Santa Clarita offers an extensive network of hiking trails that cater to all skill levels. From leisurely strolls to challenging climbs, hikers can explore the more than 13,000 acres of open space that surround our City. These protected areas boast diverse flora and fauna, providing an immersive experience of the region’s natural beauty. Beginning in September, the City’s second annual Hiking Challenge will officially begin. With the new location being Rivendale Park and Open Space at Towsley Canyon, participants will have to complete four separate hikes to obtain their hiking challenge prize.
Moving from the trails to the courts, pickleball continues to grow in popularity, especially here in Santa Clarita. Combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, this sport now has two dedicated court locations at the Vista Canyon and Bouquet Canyon Parks, providing ample space to enjoy this fast-paced and social game. If you want to stay inside and play, you can also head to the Newhall and Canyon Country Community Centers for specific court times located in the gymnasiums. With its inclusive nature and straightforward rules, pickleball has become an excellent activity for people of all ages and skill levels, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among players.
For our residents who want to be active in the mountains, but on their bikes—look no further than the Trek Bike Park of Santa Clarita. Offering a wide range of trails, tracks and jumps this park is suitable for riders of all abilities, from beginners to experts. Riders can challenge themselves on technical terrain, catch air on the jumps and enjoy breathtaking views on the ridge that overlooks the City.
With so many different outdoor opportunities for our residents, there really is something for everyone. Whether you are on the trails, court or tracks – Santa Clarita offers a wide variety of free activities for our residents year-round.
