Super Bowl Commercials Filmed in Santa Clarita? You Bet!
When was the last time you got wrapped up in a commercial? Sometimes commercials and advertisements can seem to get in the way of enjoying your favorite content or Wordle puzzles. However, there can be times where they capture our attention, making us laugh-out-loud, shed a few tears and everything in between. As industry professionals know, commercial content is an excellent way to quickly showcase a product or message to an audience; but, a commercial is only as big as the audience that views it.
High-profile events like award shows and more recently, the Super Bowl that took place in February, are some of the largest opportunities for companies to showcase their message. While we may not all be football fans, Super Bowl commercials are something many look forward to each year. Not only are they hilarious and often star studded with Hollywood’s best and brightest, but did you know that some of your favorite Super Bowl commercial have scenes that filmed right here in Santa Clarita? It comes as no surprise since the City of Santa Clarita is known as Hollywood north, offering productions big and small over a dozen movie ranches and studio spaces. Not to mention a variety of neighborhoods and locations that range from picturesque suburbia to a rugged western landscape.
Super Bowl commercials are known for being memorable and entertaining. Whether it’s pop-rap icon Megan Thee Stallion repping for Cheetos or actors Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd starring in a spot for Lay’s potato chips, TV viewers are always in for a treat (pun intended). 2021’s commercial lineup featured a Cadillac commercial where Timothée Chalamet reprises Johnny Depp’s famous role as Edward Scissorhands from the iconic Tim Burton film (1990). Chalamet can be seen trying to fit in with those around him but things often get in the way – specifically his scissorhands. In one scene, Chalamet attempts to catch a football in the main courtyard at College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus.
We absolutely adore the comedic genius of Saturday Night Live veteran Maya Rudolph who has played memorable roles in Bridesmaids (2011) and more recently, the hit-television sitcom Big Mouth (2017). One of Santa Clarita’s movie ranches was used as a backdrop for a Klara commercial where Rudolph gallops into a western gun-slinging town on a quest to find a new pair of cowboy boots. It’s only fitting that she begins to sing Nancy Sinatra’s iconic These Boots are Made for Walkin’. Last year Post Malone, and several icons of Bud Light commercials past, where featured in a Super Bowl commercial filmed right in Old Town Newhall.
Santa Clarita’s diverse range of locations and amenities offer productions the flexibility to create cinematic environments that help further storytelling. Whether it’s for an adaptation of a Tim Burton film or a western backdrop, Santa Clarita really has it all. Combined with a one-stop film permit office and friendly staff, the process of permitting film productions is quick and efficient. While the COVID-19 pandemic continues, local filming remains strong as nearly 6,000 Santa Clarita residents are employed by the movie and entertainment industry.
